Air pockets around new vent

Hello again,

I just replaced a vent on my rubber roof. It is the vent to let the hot air out from my refrigerator. I replaced it earlier this morning, and after I got home from work I went up to check on it. I noticed that the Dicor self leveling caulk is still soft and that their are now air pockets around the base of the vent. Is this normal? I'm thinking it might be because hot air comes out of the vent, and the surrounding air outside is cold. Am I right or wrong thinking this?

No problem. Dicor can take a LONG time to set up in cool damp weather. It never really gets “hard” for a real long time.

DICOR has a small amount of petroleum distillate in it (even though they say to not use PD on the roof membrane). After you apply DICOR to the roof, with the heat from the refrigerator "right there on it" that small amount of PD will evaporate causing the bubbles you see. Once the DICOR skins over, there's no way for the PD to dissipate, so it makes a bubble in the sealant. As the DICOR cures, it will probably even out and the bubbles will slowly fade away. If they do, great, if they don't, then in the spring, clean the area with alcohol, push the bubbles down so they disappear and apply another thin coating of DICOR over the area. As long as the surface of the DICOR is intact, it won't leak through, so you don't need to worry. What you see is cosmetic, not a functional problem.

The DICOR will probably stay "sticky" and "gooey" for several weeks, it's best to just leave it alone and let it do its thing rather than to keep "messing with it".....
