I have an Alpine. It has a couple of TV's, a CD/DVD player and that's it. It says I can get FM radio, but haven't figured it out yet. All RV's I've had in the past had really good radio's. This does not. Absolutely no AM. AM is what I enjoy listening too the most. Are all Alpine's the same? Is their an AM radio hidden somewhere? Comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Our Montana has a Samsung DVD player that is also supposed to be an FM tuner, no AM, but I have not ever used it that way. The coax coming from the batwing antenna is split before connecting to the box, and the connections are the normal TV connection and the other is connected to the FM antenna input. According to the instructions, and I have the wire in a bag with extra stuff, there is a wire antenna that you can plug into the FM antenna connector, and then you drape the wire where you get the best reception and fasten the end with a screw. Don't know which would work better. I scanned the page from the instructions that talk about getting FM radio reception, and this is it. Good luck. Let me know if you get things working.

If you have the Jensen AWS968, most likely the AM antenna is still rolled in a tight coil and tucked in behind the set. You will need to pull the stereo out, then unroll the antenna - I extended ours up and through the cabinet hole and into the TV cabinet. After all that it AM :ermm:works --- kinda

The radio in my Laredo is useless. FM is spotty at best. AM is nothing but static. We like to listen to talk radio but it is impossible. Radio in the outside kitchen is also useless (as a radio that is). I will admit that I have not removed either of the radios to check for the "coiled up antenna" referenced earlier.

For what it's worth - the radio in my previous camper (Jayco) was also useless. When we took possession of the Jayco - radio was demonstrated and it did not pick up anything...Dealer said "Well we are under this metal roof so radio won't pick up very good." Later when I had some warranty work done, Dealer told me "Well, none of the radios in these things work very good. You can go into any unit on the lot and the radio won't work very good. It's common with all manufacturers" - which I think is pathetic. They replaced the radio with a new unit - which still did not pick up anything. DOH!

I still see some units with an exterior antenna on roof or thru the sidewall and I wonder if their radios work as designed?

An outside antenna may be the solution --- and possibly an A-B switch on the TV antenna may be even easier but you would need to mate the antenna on the radio to the coax connector via a chunk of RB6/RB59 cable. There is probably that very adapter available somewhere for not very many dollars. Gotta look on my usual standby, Ebay ------

Update: This is what I just ordered - 10 bucks worth: https://www.amazon.com/Motorola-F-Connector-36-Cable/dp/B00GYLBU4O. If it doesn't work, it will go back to Amazon

Additionally, there is a YouTube video that supposedly shows you how to make a connector, but I'm lazy

I have a 2017 Alpine and it has a Furrion AM/FM CD/DVD player. The am/FM antenna was wadded up behind it so I mounted it behind the cabinet and it works so,so.

Glad to see that they fixed that oversight. I see the 2018s have a dishwasher installed in the island too.

Don't know if I ever tried AM in the 5th. Wife would probably appreciate a break from Michael Berry and Rush Limbaugh.
Hey baby how about some Hackberry Ramblers? YES PLEASE! LOL

Our Montana had the same issues when we bought it used - turned out there were NO antennas hooked up at all!

Interesting topic and brings back memories. Raptor has/had a external whip antenna on the roof, but never tried the AM/FM radio. I know its connected because had to pull radio out once. It appears to be a 24-30" whip antenna on the roof.

Now the story, while on I-90 in NY following a scrap truck a piece of scrap came out of the truck and I heard something hit the top of the Raptor. When got a chance to pull off and look for possible damage to the Raptor roof/exterior,
noticed whip antenna was gone  and only a stub now on the roof. Still have not tried the radio.

On my last 5er, I bought a Wall-mart aftermarket automotive antenna, mounted it outside on the vertical sidewall near the radio (one hole job). I then plugged in to the radio, and wow! 100% better on both am and fm! Took the wadded up ball of wire and threw it in the nearest dumpster.

This time around, we have a portable ac/dc "baby stereo boom box" (am/fm, CD, MP3). It even comes into the house for power outages. Much more versatile...

Good Luck,

Add something like this. They may still be available at Best Buy as well

https://www.amazon.com/SiriusXM-SXPL1V1-Satellite-Receiver-activation/dp/B00I59XQKO/ref=pd_sim_107_4?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B00I59XQKO&pd_rd_r=JTHYPQYYEQH3XY2V262S&pd_rd_w=2dMM3&pd_rd_wg=7zVEs&psc=1&refRID=JTHYPQYYEQH3XY2V262S

May not be the best way, but they do work

If you have Sirius in your TV or a car (we have it in both) you can use the online Sirius, and plug your smartphone or ipad into the auxiliary input, or use bluetooth and get the sound through the trailer speakers.
