Howdy! Just traded my Forest River Wildwood small toy hauler 5ver for a 2002 Cougar 278RK. Have an Andersen goose neck adapter with safety chains. The missus wanted a rear kitchen model with a dinette adjacent and this camper fits the bill. I have a 96 F250 TV with 460/automatic.

The new trailer tows nicely and everything works fine. Have a few issues to correct before taking out for some real camping. The tub surround is cracked in a number of places and needs replaced. The old Winegard batwing lower control and the rod through the thing is shot and needs to raised/lowered with vise grips. The trim seal on the lower front of the 5ver needs reset and the bath fan is hitting its frame when turned on. I will also get up on top and make sure and use some new Dicor glop but the roof looks pretty good right now.

Anyway, have a bunch of little projects ahead but this trailer has a perfect floor plan for us and I am looking forward to some great camping... as far as personal info, we love the Lord, riding our Goldwing trike and shooting and we have 10 dogs (rescue) and live on 5 acres out near Medina Lake in the Texas Hill Country. My wife retired this year and spends her time trying to train me and I retired in 1998 from the Fed and now sell/rebuild vintage Japanese motorcycle carburetors for a living (to supplement my pension etc). Been in business for 13 years now. We have owned Lance, Sunnybrook and Forest River campers in the past.

Here is a pic of my new-to-me 5ver and old pickup in the parking lot of the Smokestack restaurant about 70 west of Fort Worth off IH20. It is in Thurbur (population 5) ghost town just to the east of Texas 16 which we took all the way home.

Welcome to the forum from the Memphis area. We have camped a couple times in the Uvalde area and rode the Three sisters and beyond. If there is a brisket joint in that area we missed then I'm ashamed. A wonderful place to visit and ride.

Since Texas invented BBQ, it is hard to single out one great place but my favorite is Coopers in Llano. There is also a Coopers on Mason which is pretty good. Some folks like the Salt Lick in Driftwood where the Austin folks (most from California) like to go. I am a fan of Heavy's BBQ in Hondo OR Devine for local places. Uvalde is a great area and where Dale Evens hailed from.

FYI: I did some of my high school in Sweetwater in E. TN. Loved the state of Tennessee except for the "s" word... brrrrrr

Welcome from W TX! Thurber, TX! Go through there all the time on my way to ???? places. Not a bad place to stop to eat, and, until I stopped there never knew TX had anyplace that mined for coal.....or made bricks.

As far as bbq, or brisket, we've eaten at most of the good ones and Cooper's in Llano is pretty good. On our last time thru, on the way home, I just bought an entire brisket to bring home since good bbq is non existent in W TX. We also like Peete's in Marble Falls. Don't know why, but it sure tasted great the last time I stopped in.....maybe I had smoked brisket withdrawal:)

Welcome from Liberty Texas.
Lots of folks enjoy the hill country. I've deer hunted a bit around Doss and Burnet. We're overdue to get out there.

Just west of our county seat, Hondo is the little town of D'Hanis on the railroad tracks along US90. They have made the bricks for MANY of the county court houses in Texas and the bricks are distinctive by their color.

D'Hanis also has a great eatery called Bill & Rosa's saloon. It is the real deal although a family restaurant and not really a saloon. I try to avoid driving through Marble Falls as it is as bad a most big cities as far as traffic.

We lived in Marble in the 70's (our first new house) and it was just a sleepy little lake town - a wonderful place. As you said, our last trip the traffic was backed up everywhere. We ended up staying in Fredericksburg but I still like the Highland Lakes area.

Welcome from Schulenburg Tx. Been out that way a ton and second Bill and Rosas. We used to go to Acuna Mx for mission work. Also been on the Three Sisters run a few times and have family from Andrews Tx to Midland and just about everywhere in between.
