5th wheel slider hitches

New to owning a 5th wheel. Having hitch installed this weekend. Any advice on specific hitches to stay away from? Installing on a 2017 Ram 2500 crew cab 6.5 ft bed. Intalation happening at a camping world in Poteau OK. They haven't been able to tell me exact unit being installed but indicated it is a slider hitch. Cost installed is to be around $1900.

Kilgorea, I believe for $1900 you need to know the EXACT model you are getting. A slider hitch may cost as little as $800 plus installation and an
"auto-slider" may cost as much as $1800 plus capture plate and mounting hardware AND plus installation. Camping World kind of had me over a barrel when we bought ours because we were 1000 miles from home and had no time to shop around. The hitch we agreed upon was out of stock so they did upgrade at no extra charge. Other members can probably give you a better idea than me about the cost of installation, but call them and tell 'em how the cow ate the cabbage. You want to know the make and model number.

A lot too depends on if you have the factory 5th wheel puck setup already in your truck! I would assume they offer that on 3/4 ton trucks also. A lot of people have been saying also that with the way the front caps are made now that they don't need the slider hitches, not sure about your setup.

CW installed a B&W Companion non-slider 5th wheel on my 2016 MegaCab, that didn't work so well, even with the tight turn radius of the 2017 Raptor the cab and RV almost hit and when trying to back in the RV to the driveway when I 1st brought it home. Took me over one hour to get her in and park, I was so stress out and knew right then I needed a slider. That same night I found the curt 24 slider off eTrailer that will give you an extra 10 inches of turning radius, ordered it and arrived in 3 days...installed it with help from my bud under 2 hours. Knowing what I know now, I would not let CW install it and just do it yourself, but requires help for sure. I'm not expert but would stick with B&W, Curt, or Andersons Hitches... all available off eTrailer.com

I had a PullRite Super Glide on my shortbed F250 and I loved it. I would buy it again in a heart beat if I needed one. Even with a slider you need to know your rigs limits. For that kind of cash you should be told the brand and model before signing the dotted line!!! It does seem a bit high but things have gone up since I had mine.

What you are paying for is a very good hitch, an "auto-slider." There may be better auto-sliders but I don't know of one. This will enable you to take reasonably sharp turns without having to get out of your truck and operate the slider yourself. We don't know if your truck has the puck system so I can only quote the average installation charges here in Memphis; $400.00. If you don't have the pucks then you will need the universal mounting plates also and that's another $250 or so. At this point the $1900 in todays market is about right. In my opinion, you can rest easy.

I have the same hitch in my Ford......totall out the door was 1800.00 with the hitch/underbed mounting system and capture plate. Very smooth hitch!!!

We've had our Pullrite 2900 for almost five years now, and except for having to replace the guide bearing, which they only charged me shipping for, the hitch has been flawless. I lube the pivot bolt and the upper pivot points with grease a couple times a year, and WD40 every morning on the rails prior to hitching up.

We're kind of in the same boat, err RV. We purchased a 2017 Alpine 3010RE and Camping World delivered. Now we need the hitch. We have a 15K slider but have discovered that we should be in a 18K or 20K hitch. We have the 3500 Dodge Mega Cab with a 6.6 bed and originally assumed that the max turn would mean no slider required. However, I guess that's not the case. So, from what I'm reading above eTrailers is the place to search. We were at Camping World today and got a bid on a Curt 20k slider with a $469 installation fee plus another $75 installation plus $94 in supplies. Camping World said hitches come in pieces when received and are not put together. Is this the case when order from eTrailers that you have to put the pieces together or just install on the truck? So far so good with the superglide. We did a three hour trip home and other than some banging when I accelerate to much after a sharp turn it was great. Don't have anything to compare it to as this is my first fifth wheel hitch. I will say the catch plate is moving a little bit (side to side) on the king pin. Might just need tightened up but don't want to tighten to much given it is held on with the plastic piece and read not to tighten to much. Anyone had this issue?

Wanderin, do you already have the universal bed rails in your truck? If you do then you are all set. And no, the hitch won't come in "hitches come in pieces when received and are not put together" like they said. Generally they will come on a small wooden pallet, covered with cardboard in two pieces. The "head" of the hitch will be separate from the base. You will remove your existing hitch by pulling the four pins, drag it over to the tailgate and drop it on the ground. Then when your new hitch is delivered by the freight company from Etrailer you simply have them unload it directly to the back of your pickup and you unpack it and drop it back on the universal plates. After you replace the pins you will then install the head. It isn't really much of a problem. I might add, if a person does not have an existing hitch in their truck it is quite a chore installing one the first time.
