For you RV Trailer Haulers, what Brake Controller do you use and why?

I have a Drawtight Activator II because it was already installed in my Excursion when I purchased the vehicle. Should I change it out? I am towing a Sprinter weighing 7900 lbs dry.

In my opinion the Prodigy is the best out there. Maybe even as good as factory installed on new trucks.

i had a chevy with a factory one intergrated in the dash, and i thought it was junk. it would just stop working, and then just start again. it was replaced a few times, but eventually it would fail on me again. installed a prodigy 2 and never had a problem since. i use the next level down on my personal work truck, only cause my wife wouldn't let me spend to cash on it. all i was looking for was the digital display. i always figured the only difernece in them was the convinece intergrated on them.

Prodigy. Properly adjust your brakes, properly set up the prodigy, good to go.

Hayes Engage installed by the dealer last fall as part of my trailer purchase. I have a Prodigy P3 in the garage ready to replace the Hayes tomorrow night. The Hayes is the time engage or ramp ... brakes come on lightly and then increase. Really annoying as you approach a stop light, for example.

Although I do not have experience with a variety of different controllers, i am ver impressed with my Hensley Trucontrol Gold controller.

I'm not crazy about the Prodigy, no continuity between my high speed braking and low speed.

I'm always re-adjusting the darn thing depending on my driving speed.

I have never had to make the slightest adjustment on the Hensley.

Prodigy for us because we often tow in mountains and it determines amount of braking by CHANGE in deceleration. Thus it works great going up or down or on the level. True set and forget.

I also vote for the Prodigy, set it and forget it. Over the past 6 years ours has been used in three different tow vehicles (Exploder, Sierra 1500 and Sierra 2500) to control three different trailers a 26 ft, 35 ft and now our Montana 5er. Money well spent.

I have had Prodigy and Hayes my Hayes G2 works flawlessly. I have it installed in my Toyo for the small trailers. The Prodigy failed allot and read no brakes. IN my Ford I have the factory on and it works good to. I vote for the hayes.

Hi Jeffrey11,
Glad you like the brake controller in your Ford....it's a Tekenosha...Prodigy :D

I know Ford uses the accelerometer from prodigy but the big difference seems to be in the wiring and the brake pedal sensor. The unit in the Ford increases with both depth of pedal press and motion. With the dash unit it is all motion and break on/ off - this makes a huge noticeable difference. The other issue for both the Hayes and the Prodigy is the cheese connector on the back.

Same here.

Had it on my F-150 and my Expedition. Towed a 32 Rockwood and our current 35 Bullet. As Ron Popeil would say, "set it and forget it".
