View Full Version : Outback 250URS BAL Hide-A-Spare

One week into ownership and my mods have started. . . .

I cannot stand crouching under the bed slide lowering the spare to get a camp chair out. I think the BAL Hide-A-Spare is my best bet to make this a little less painful. I have done enough research to know what I think the right model is (28216B), but any assistance is appreciated.

Does anyone know which BAL Hide-A-Spare model fits a 2018 250URS?

And, where on the frame did you install yours?

Not sure if anyone has one on their Outback but I saw several of these on 5th wheels and if you get the specs and do some measuring it might work just in front of or behind the axles.

I installed this Hide-a-Spare (Check this out: BAL 28218 Hide-A-Spare Tire Storage - I-Beam Underslung Mount BAL ... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KPQYV0E/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_awdb_DOjSzb1BVXVGW) on my Bullet. It mounted securely on the I-frame over the coroplast. There was some flexibility on mounting positions in case you have to contend with an lpg line. Easy install and It freed up my bumper.

Thanks to both of you. I did notice the gas line runs just the entire length of the trailer, but my frame isn't a I beam. It looks like will miss that line. I did wonder in front or behind the axles. Which would be better. Part of me thinks it would be safer behind the axles, but not really sure about that.

It came on my Montana HC. It is located behind the axels as it should be. Mine is in front of the FW tank and that is as far back as possible. Helps reduce PW by a few #.

Mine arrived on the front porch while we were camping yesterday. Amazon wasn't supposed to deliver it untill Tuesday. Luckily it was still sitting there when we got home this afternoon. I'll let you know how the install goes.

I installed mine behind the axle and with self taping screws to the frame. Very easy install.

Thanks! That's what I was hoping for. I just wasn't sure it would hold up without nuts and bolts. I was not really wanting to drill through the frame if it's boxed and I am not even sure what a "Z frame" means, but that is what Keystone and Norco told me I have.

Z frame in the RV world is basically a zinc coating to prevent rust. It could still be an I beam or box frame. I believe the outback still uses I beam.
