Hollow sound on outside of rear panel. Need advice

I am looking at buying a 2013 bullet premier 19fbpr tomorrow and I noticed that when you tap on the outside of the side panel it sounds solid and firm. It does not sound or feel solid when you do the same to the rear of the outside panel. Its sounds soft and hollow.

Is this normal? I have noticed that it needs to be re caulked on the roof.

If the trailer is built with filon exterior, then the sidewalls are vacuum bonded, meaning the exterior and interior walls are bonded to the aluminum framework as one piece. The rear wall is "floating", and as such will sound hollow.

Some trailers are still built with aluminum panels that are stapled onto a wooden frame, and those will sound the same on any wall you tap.

Re sealing the roof seams is straight forward, but I would look real close at the front and rear roof seams for any signs of voids that would have let water penetrate the roof. If you go to the Dicor website there will be videos describing how to determine the material your roof is made of and the proper sealant to use.

I just bought the 2017 Premier 19FBPR a few weeks ago, and I have the exact same observation. Side walls have a solid sound when knocked on, and the back wall does have a soft hollow sound.

And as chuckster57 mentioned, my trailer does have the "filon" walls. I would expect yours as well. :thumbsup:

Any thoughts on a WD hitch? Do I need sway control?

Your tow vehicle weighs about 5000 pounds and the GVW is 6200 pounds, so you're looking at a payload somewhere around 1200 pounds. The trailer is about 6500 pounds loaded and ready to camp, so with the GCWR on your truck of 12,700, you're going to be close, but should be OK.

With a wheelbase (on the crewcab short bed) of 128" and the trailer being 24', I'd urge you to consider a quality hitch with sway control. Others who tow the same trailer with a 145" wheelbase F150 or similar might get away without sway control, but with your rig, I'd urge you to do it right the first time.

The Equalizer 4 point hitch is one choice that you might consider. Enjoy your not truck and trailer, tow safely and camp as much as you can, winter's on the way !!!!!

X2 on the 4 point Equalizer. Not the E2. The 4 point is a superior design and when properly set up will take the sway out. Enjoy your new camper.

Welcome from another 19FBPR owner. I hope you enjoy your trailer as much as we do.

I am not in your situation as I have a 172" wheel base and a F250; we are not bothered with sway (can't even tell when an 18 wheeler blows by). Take the advice of those who know ^^^ and get the sway bars for your configuration.
