I have a 2013 Cougar Xlite 21RBS and I have replaced the plastic damper on my exhaust hood 3 time so far. The pins on the ends of the dampers are so small they break off and then the damper falls out. Has anyone had this issue or come up with a solution. I hate to keep replacing them but if I don't its a great path for bugs to get in.
thanks in advance.

Stainless steel wire and Gorilla Tape works for me by the way need to make it a habit to close it before you drive off. That's how they break off.

An old towel shoved up in the vent. Pull it out on the rare occasion we cook inside. Adds insulation value as well.

Only time I've lost our "flipper" was when I forgot to close the little tabbies over it on the bottom corners. It flew off somewhere between Ithaca, NY and Elyria, OH. Ended up buying a new outside vent kit and using just the flipper, which has lasted ever since. Hard lesson learned to not forget the little tabbies before moving! Another, more expensive fix is to get the Sam-1 vent fan for the stove. But that was worth every penny for my ears! :)

Instead of the Gorilla tape, I used J-B Weld.

There is a better vent available, a JR Products Endura which I installed on our last 5er.

I think the OP'S problem is that the tabs are breaking off first leading to the flipper/flapper falling off. I agree, the tabs are a PITB.

I had same problem on last RV. My fix worked for years after. I have some of that gray/black water pipe foam insulation(like a pool noodle). I cut a small piece that fit in the vent on the outside with the flap closed. I held that in place with 2 clothes pins. Like a hillbilly fix but, it worked and all people seen if they looked was 2 clothes pins attached to the vent hood. So the foam piece held the flap closed, clothes pins held that in place. To use the vent, remove pins foam drops out.

Thanks for the responses, I will admit the first damper fell off because I forgot to close the little tabs, lesson learned. The next two were closed and still fell off, I think I will take a look at the Endura Vent

Ok, there was one - where can I get just the damper? Looks to be 11 x 4?

Hi all - hope this will still show up as it is an older thread. My 2015 175LHS has the damper broken off. I bought it used and never noticed it until cleaning it today and feeling a lot of hot air coming in over the stove.

There look to be openings where a pin hinge would fit at the top, and two pivoting clips at the bottom. Are there replacement dampers, or do I need to replace the whole vent?

Thanks,
Steve in Atlanta

Probably the best choice is to replace the whole thing with a better product... http://jrproducts.net/index.php/catalog/load_product_list/Vents/Range%20Vents/

but... here is the replacement.. https://www.etrailer.com/Accessories-and-Parts/Ventline/BCA0472-00.html?feed=npn&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI1re7iezT3AIVjcDICh0IfwB0EAQYASAB EgLci_D_BwE
