New Member- Hello!!!

Hi Fellow Keystoners!

We have been the happy owners of a Passport Travel Trailer since 2011, so we are not newbies to camping. My husband and I have come to discover that a few things in our camper were not built to our likings, so we have modified things as we go! Now, as our Passport gets older, we are finding out there are not many resources to turn to... like wiring diagrams... the owners manual does not give enough information. Thankfully, I found this forum to help with our questions... fingers crossed!

What we are are newbies to is the idea of using a forum, so please forgive our ignorance if we post something in the wrong place! lol

As far as our mods, my husband replaced the water lines with PEX tubing. He also used better shut-offs as well on the lines. When our rig was brand new, we had a water problem. (Yeah, we could have taken it to the dealership... 2 hours away! It was just easier to make the updates ourselves.) There was an issue with the black tank clean-out line and we ended up with water through the rig. Since he made that change, we have not had a problem since.

Another modification was rollouts in the pantry/closet and kitchen cabinets. This sure beats guessing what we have packed in a back corner!

Our camper is a 250 bunkhouse. Our son is now 19 and has outgrown the bunk weight of 150 pounds. We took the bunk out and replaced it with shelving. I have canvas baskets on the shelf for when our son is with us so he can put his clothing, electronics, etc. in them. The husband made sure to put a lip on the shelf so the baskets stayed in place when traveling.

The bathroom in the trailer is very nice, but the toilet and the sink are all we need. (We go on camping vacation once a year and become weekend warriors for the remainder.) The rig came with a shower/mini-bathtub. We decided since we use campground shower houses, we converted the tub into a shelving/storage area. The tub is still in place; we added shelving above it. If we go to sell the RV, it can be taken out and the shower/tub is still there. My husband used a lightweight wood with a birch finish.

Also, the coolest thing my husband did on the camper was fabricate a bike rack. He contacted Keystone when we first got the camper (back in 2011) about putting a 3-bike rack on the back of the trailer. Keystone said that would have voided the warranty on the ultra lite, so he said about putting it up front over the tongue. They gave us the okay, and that is what he did. I think he designed the first tongue bike rack because no one had one of these at that time. The hardest thing was to get the rack high enough so the truck bed did not hit the rack. He did a mock up and then fabricated. It has been such a conversation piece at many campgrounds; people ask to take pictures too. We see these kind of racks all the time now, but then again we see people with huge bike racks still hanging off the back of their ultra lites too.

I think we are done modifying the Passport because we are starting the new project: 1946 Spartan Manor.
