View Full Version : Refrigerator Fan Vent

13162I'm having trouble obtaining 12v power for the fan I'm trying to install. The wires attached to the left side of the block in the photo are labeled 12v DC, so I thought I could just attach directly under the screws, but the fan doesn't power on. I wouldn't think this is from a switched source. I thought this method would be easier than cutting and splicing into the wires.
Anyone installed one? Where did you get the 12v power?

Your pic shows up for me. That looks like the 12VDC feed for the refer. If you have power but the fan doesn't work, then the fan is suspect. Have you verified voltage at the block? If no voltage present then I would check fuses at the panel.

It was getting dark and I didn't get out my voltmeter. Instead, I switched the refer over to gas, and it fired right up. I assume this 12v line is for the igniter.

Igniter should be on the control board. Look for 12V wiring coming out of the trailer wall or floor where the fridge sits. Should be live ALL THE TIME.

Yeah, that's where this wire comes from. It disappears on the left side of the refer, on the side where the converter is. I'll verify the wire is hot with a voltmeter tomorrow.

Is the fan you are installing thermister controlled? For example, if the ambient temp is below the set temp on the fan it won't come on - can test this by holding the thermister bulb between your thumb and finger.

Well, if this isn't one of those "doh!" moments! Reminds me of the time I couldn't figure out why the outlet under my sink wasn't working. You know, the one controlled by the switch for the garbage disposal.

You may have just saved me from banging my head any more!:facepalm:

It wasn't hot enough. I just tested it by heating up the thermostat with a hair dryer and touching the not wire to the terminal. Spun right up.

Sure been hot enough out here!! 109 yesterday...chilly 98 today.

That's not fit for human habitation. We get heat indexes due to the humidity. Thermometer might read 95, but the body thinks it's 110.

To us desert dwellers, it's humidity that isn't fit for human habitation. Our heat indexes rarely go higher than ambient temperature, if anything, due to the super low humidity, it "feels" cooler.

Right now, outside of Phoenix it is 86 with a heat index of 83 :D
