Has anyone shortened their black tank cable? Mine is really difficult to open and close and I would like to make it a straight run.

Cable actuated valves come in standard lengths, and depending on what brand of valve, cannot be cut. If your having issues with the cable try pulling it out and spraying the cable with a penetrating lubricant and working the cable in/out. I have had success with PbBlaster.

I think chuckster57's response combination valve/cable assemblies. I have had two issues with tank valves, one black and one gray. In both cases the problem was the cables and not the actual valves. My posts can be found with a search think on valves. It will show the weird things that can happen with these cables. As stated now I spray every now ant then with PM Blaster.

One of these cables I replaced my self. Instructions provided with the cable show how to cut the cable to size, both inside wire and outside braid. Also illustrated is how to make the hook on the center wire and attach to the valve rod as well as how to attach the braid to the valve body. So yes I would think you could shorten an existing cable and reattach.

Make sure your valve is of a type that the cable can be replaced. If a short straight shot some have replaced that cable with a rod. Mine was not

Thanks for the replies. The dealer said I cannot shorten the cable and keystone would not say either way. I will take a look this weekend when we are away.
