Tank Level Gauges

Has anyone added a 2nd level meter/gauges to the water bay area? Seems like a natural place to have them when flushing the tanks or filling the fresh water, instead of running back inside the trailer to check levels.. Maybe higher end trailers have this already?

We just bought a 17 Carbon 337 (not sure if it's considered "high end" to the industry, but it sure is to me).

Ours only has gauges on the main control panel (inside). I love our hauler, but the water fill situation is unbelievably stupid. No gravity fill, so I have to use the pressurized "city water" connection to fill the fresh tank, and, just like you said, keep running inside to check the level, or risk overfilling and damaging the tank. I just cannot understand why they stopped putting gravity fills on trailers, it was so much easier and safer to use, and you knew the tank was really full without worrying about damaging anything due to filling at 40 psi through a closed connection. What the hell are they thinking???

I have a carbon 327. There is an overflow valve - it's meant to be overfilled. It's annoying, especially considering the marginal accuracy of those gauges.


I haven't looked into gravity fill, but I think there may be a means to "pump" water into the tank.. Maybe someone can verify for me but the "sanitize" function might be able to pump water "in" from an external source.

If I recall right, above the water heater there is a plastic over-fill port. Water will run out of this.

I've read elsewhere that if you fill the tank until water is forced up through the air vent, you've created quite a bit of pressure in the tank, possibly enough to cause damage, and the owners manual seems to imply the same thing. I've been afraid to push it :( I've also read that some people use the air vent as a poor man's gravity fill, but it sounds like you have to be very careful, the vent is really not intended to handle any pressure and you can easily dislodge the hose that connects it to the tank.

Again, I haven't tested any of this myself, just reporting what I've read on the subject.

I think mine is labelled "overfill" - not sure if yours is the same. I'd agree, that it's probably a good best practice not to do it. Fill volume via "city water" seems to be limited, so not entirely sure how big a deal it is. I have overfilled mine.

I have overfilled mine.I'll have to check how mine is labeled, I think I remember seeing the word "vent" on it, but not 100% sure. I'm temped to call Keystone Customer Service and ask about all this, but I'm sure I'll just get a know-nothing CSR telling me to "follow the procedure outlined in the owners manual" :banghead:

Btw, I just fill the tank until it overflows out of the vent behind and above the rear wheel.

Sounds like a reasonable idea but not sure how easy it would be. You could just wire directly to the existing probes and run the display to where you want it. It may be a lot more trouble than its worth.

There is a "sensor pack" that uses a resistor to send the signal to the display panel. You would need one of those and a compatible panel.
