Durango, and CO in general, has been the discussion in various threads when discussing camping destinations. Many of those threads have mentioned the detrimental effect of marijuana on the state. I've noted my encounters there and my observations of deterioration in Durango. The article linked below describes virtually everything I've posted about and experienced in Durango and illustrates why I don't go there any longer.

sourdough Read that article with great interest. Don't know if you heard but our "flower child" Prime Minister is going to legalize marijuana use here in Canada next year. I also live in a beautiful resort mountain town in BC. Would hate to see it go the way of Durango.

I hope it doesn't go the way Durango has gone. Durango is a beautiful place and used to be one of our favorite destinations. Due to exactly what this article describes we just won't go there any longer. We've experienced everything talked about and more. It's just a shame.

We're very overdue to get back to the area. Always enjoyed Durango but haven't been since the laws changed. We're all booked up for this year but was planning to spend some time there next summer. We know a little RV spot near Pagosa Springs I want to park for a few weeks. I'll do a "drive-by" in Durango before I commit to spending any time and money there.

Stayed at the KOA in Silt (overnight) and stayed 3 nights at the KOA in Durango. Had zero issues. It was mid October, maybe that made a difference.

We love the area greatly and are headed to Pagosa for a month beginning June 2. Used to have to drive to Durango to go to Walmart but now Pagosa has one. We plan on driving over just to check it out. It's still a pretty place and our route to Silverton and points north - we just won't tarry.

Where do you stay in Pagosa? I'm looking at Sportsmans up by Wlilliams Creek Reservoir. We used it for showers while elk hunting years ago.

When we go to Pagosa we stay in a condo in the past few years. Sportsmen's is a nice place but it's a bit of a drive out there - but the road is good. In years past there has been some great fishing on Williams Creek.

There are a couple of places right on 65? E of Pagosa that are nice for RVs. When we took our RV up there several years ago we stayed over close to South Fork at one of the campgrounds on the river. I was just wandering around year before last and found an RV campground on the South Fork highway just before you get to the falls on the left back in the forest. It might be something you are interested in but I think it was probably dry camping. I can try to get the info if it sounds like something you would want to do.

Note: It's not hwy 65 it's hwy. 160.
