Should I get a 4x4 TV, really needed ??

You might not need 4x4 if that's a dualie. On the other hand, I like to have 4 wheel drive no matter what or where. Never know what you might get into...:whistling:

At least it looks like it all worked out OK without too big a mess.

I like being prepared, live with my Army unit motto of Semper Vigilis and always try to have a backup plan. So...I have 4WD, a limited slip rear differential (LSD) and all terrain tires, primarily because I really need 4WD during the winter where I live.

Whether you need 4WD or not is up to you, but LSD should be required equipment on every TV, IMO.

We have not been without 4x4 in our family since 1986. Suburbans, Excursions, F-250/350's, one Chevy 2500. A lot easier to get rid of and remember the boy Scout motto: Be prepared.

I used to get my trailer in/out of the side yard and across 40' of lawn without any issues any season. Old trailer had 2000 king pin, present one has 1300 pounds.

Wet grass and I got so stuck I had to unhook and use the Mariner to pull the truck off the lawn. Called my buddy who had a 4X4 and fifth wheel hitch. Even he had a hard time putting my trailer away.

Shortly after that I had a 10'X40' concrete driveway poured. We don't camp where I need to drive across lawn. The whole point? Just thought I would share, no plans to buy a 4 (6) WD.

I haven't owned a truck that wasn't 4wd. But then again I live in a placed that it is used often. With the new trailer being almost twice as heavy I find myself using even when I didn't in the past.

As my grandad used to say, "better to have and not need, than to need and not have".
I use my 4wd to back the Cougar into the RV parking an the side of the house due to the high curbs we have in our subdivision. Also came in handy negotiating the "Moki Dugway". dangerousroads.org/north-america/usa/783-mokee-dugway-usa.html

The other thing I failed to mention in a previous post that is an advantage to having 4WD is the transfer case low range. Comes in handy at times when a lower gear is needed.

Looks like WIFI up again, yes there was a campsite escort who was to take me to the site. She took off speeding golf cart?? When I got to the site I thought it was strange she was not on the site but standing on the gravel road???

As I was backing in and plowing the back nine, she split. Treads on the TV filled with mud, not much traction. Definitely did some serious landscaping, it's a mess.

After getting Raptor in there then yeap leveling blocks 3" deep in mud, getting up on blocks another trick. I know auto leveling . A unit across street struck getting in also with no 4x4 finally got out digging and gravel. Put down levelers and watched then bury them self in the mud. After a couple big boards he finally got it leveled.

Probably will need shovel to get my blocks dug out :banghead:

Just the fun of camping, next time will walk the site regardless who is there. Old folk do learn but at times take a while :facepalm:

In 1976 I bought my 1st truck. It was 4 wheel drive and I have had countless trucks since ~~ every one 4 wheel drive.

We were not thinking a 4WD was needed when we went shopping for our current truck, but all there was at the time were 4WD, and the price was right. Over the years, we have regularly used, and needed, all the wheels driving, whether in mud, snow, or even in perfectly dry conditions when in gravel. When you are pulling a large trailer, ours a fifth wheel, you really can use the extra traction. No regrets here.

Our first truck (back when gas was leaded and tires were bias ply) was a 2WD. I got stuck in a flea market parking lot after a quick afternoon shower. I couldn't get out of 1" of "gumbo mud" and had to be pulled to the edge of the parking lot. Since then, every truck (and most cars/SUV's) have been 4WD or AWD. The exception is my Mustang, but it sits in the pole barn except for "special occasions"......

I've had to use 4WD to keep from destroying the lawn when moving the trailer and/or just to keep from digging ruts in the grass.

Have gotten stuck once with our last fifth wheel. Was camping at the Watkins Glen race track and we had a very wet weekend. Tried to pull the fifth wheel out with the truck and got further stuck. 4 wheel low did not help any in this case.

The race track was prepared and pulled stuck campers out with large tractors and tow trucks. At least 50% of the campers had to be pulled out of the camping sites. There was not charge for the pull.

Sounds like Martinsville. I've had some iffy times wondering if I was going to get out of the persons yard I camp in. The track always has huge tractors and tow trucks on standby because it ALWAYS rains at Mville. So far 4wd has worked for me, both there and in my yard.
