50 amp to 50 amp dog bone

I purchased a 50 amp to 50 amp dog bone to help take the heavy pressure off the electrical connector, from the weight of the heavy cord. The problem is that the ground on the RV is located at the top of the plug, and the ground on the dog bone is located on the left looking at the trailer. So the cord still has all the weight hanging on the connector. Can the connector be turned on the trailer? Or did I just purchase the wrong type of dog bone?

Mine did the same thing on our alpine so I returned. Maybe we can both get the answer here?

There was a thread about this just recently. Can't remember what it was named, but yes, you can rotate your outlet. Take out the 4 screws holding the square retaining piece, rotate the outlet, put it back together. Just make sure there is enough extra wire behind there that you don't pull it too tight. Someone else might be able to find that thread.

Just to follow up, I was the OP on the other thread that nellie1289 linked. I was able to fix mine and it was pretty easy as everyone said; just removed the four screws, rotated the receptacle (but not the hinged cover plate) and reinstalled. The wire was a little tight after rotating, but it seems to work fine, and now my 50 amp cord hangs straight down as it should.

I can't rotate mine due to location. I would have to re-drill and mess with mounting location. Quite a bit of work.

I just purchased a 90 degree dogbone. On my rig, the bumper frame/mount holds up the cord.

I will also say that the receptacle on the camper is quite substantial. With the threaded collar, I wouldn't worry about the receptacle. The cord itself was my main concern, which is why I bought a 90 degree dogbone.
