Alpine slides don't seal too well...

Well, had the new 5er out for the maiden voyage this weekend, and all went well except for one thing (that I know of at this point...).

We had to travel about 20km of road construction (all gravel) as well as 30km of gravel road in the provincial park we were staying in. Once we arrived and got all leveled, etc. put the slides out to find 1/8" of fine powdery gravel road dust had made it's way in thru the slide seals.

Has anyone else had this problem? Is it a common issue? Is there a fix? Do I need to stay OFF of gravel roads from now on?

I have an $80K truck and it seals up great, but my $80K trailer does NOT. :(

If the dust gets in when it's dry, what's gonna happen when I'm cruzing down the road at 100km/hr in the pouring rain?

Saw your post yesterday but couldn't reply. We had a little weather scare last night.

I have not had the same problem, but I have noticed that the bottom of our slides do not totally seat against the sides. I'm thinking of adjusting them a little as described in the slide users guide we received. Did you get this users guide?

I've noticed that the trim piece that is on the sides about a foot from the bottom prevents the slides from closing all the way at the bottom. Not sure why they didn't cut them short enough to allow the slide bottom to close all the way.

Hi X-Treme,
We had a poor seal on the bottom edge of our bedroom slide. I used a business card to test the seal and discovered the rear 3 feet was not making contact with the wall of the trailer. Since it was the bedroom slide, I removed the top of the bed and adjusted the ram's stroke to pull the slide in a bit tighter.

You might want to do a little poking around to see which slides are making poor contact and by how much. Then get out your slide adjustment brochure.

On our previous TT, a hybrid, we found if we left a vent or window open it created a suction that pulled dirt and water right into TT. With everything closed tight, no problem. So, do you close everything up?

Yeah. I have had it out a couple times since, and had zero issues, but I also haven't been on any gravel roads since, so...
