View Full Version : Does The Passport 2400BH Have A Battery Disconnect?

Hello All,

Just got a new Passport 2400BH. On my trade in unit there was a battery disconnect switch. Does the 2400BH come with one so that things do not stay on (i.e. gas detector) when the unit is not in use. The only thing that I see getting constant power is the gas detector. Maybe that's not drawing much. I was just so use to the battery disconnect.

Thanks in advance for any replys.

Kirk

I've got the Bullet 243BHS and it did not come with a disconnect. Inside, I see the gas detector and radio on constant power.

Thanks for the feedback. Have you noticed any drain on the battery?

Same here. I cut the radio off, but still see the detector on constant power. I am surprised there is not one on there. Maybe I was spoiled with the other TT having one. Or maybe I am worry to much about the battery being drained. hmmm.

My radio glows regardless if it's on or off. I typically have the unit plugged into the house 110v when we're not out camping... keeps the fridges cold. :-)

Possible "phantom drain sources" could include the CO detector, propane detector, smoke detector, radio backlight/memory circuits, control center with clock or "always on" monitor circuitry, backlit switches/night light switches, motion detector porch lights, temperature monitoring roof vents with a thermostat can start to operate if the temperature setting is reached, any inverter that is permanently installed and not turned off, 12 volt "digital" thermostat that is left in either the heat or A/C position (not turned to off), even if the temp setting is set so the appliance won't come on, the thermostat control circuits will continue to monitor the temperature, Winegard TV antenna booster, 12 volt sound bar standby circuitry, sub-woofer standby power, and of course, any lights that are left on in storage bays, on the front cap and/or in areas that you wouldn't notice.

Some of the above are "unpowered" or turned off with the factory battery cut-off switch, but some of them are considered "safety devices" and are always powered while others are wired to "always on" power sources either at the factory or by a "mod happy" owner.

Not all CO detectors and smoke detectors are connected to the RV battery, but enough of them are to at least check your application.

Great points. I also noticed the backlight of the thermostat turned on when I touched it. So yes there are several areas of concern. Is it common for a trailer not to have a Battery Disconnect? Or do I just manually disconnect one of the terminals my self. That's always an option. Not as convenient though.
thanks

Nice unit. I almost got that one! :)

I see lots of trailers without disconnects. Cruiser brand actually stopped putting them in last year. My '12 copper canyon doesn't have one.

Installing one is very simple.

Thanks. I am researching this now and see what you mean. Lots of options and some seem fairly straight forward.

The route I chose mounted the disconnect on top of the battery box. The key is removable in the off position. Here's the link (http://www.keystoneforums.com/forums/showpost.php?p=204173&postcount=3).

We use this:
https://www.amazon.com/Marinco-701HBRV-House-Battery-Switch/dp/B004VRNQS6/ref=sr_1_2/131-8389860-9719324?ie=UTF8&qid=1493263292&sr=8-2&keywords=marinco+battery+switch

The key is removable and we mount to inside of frame. Busterbrowns mod is nice, so you have choices.

It is an easy project to add one yourself. I installed mine in the front pass through storage area. You just have to route some extra wire through the underbelly.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170427/ecac73609a4222c45c6714f3f281adb6.jpg

I love this idea. My 2400BH doesn't have one either and I have been struggling with how I want to mount mine for days.

440Justin, mind sharing more photos of how our mounted that and ran the wires?

I mounted mine on the side of the battery box. I used sheet metal screws that would bite and put the screws in from the inside of the battery box into the switch. That way there was nothing sharp in the box. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170428/b0ff8f43dcc1291d84e82caad6566cd2.jpg

Tbos,

I have that same switch, however the side to the switch is Open. Is this by design? If so, do you have the open port to the left or to the bottom on yours?

I'll have to check when I get home. Fortunately it's there right now instead of in storage.

I actually have it set up with 2 open ports. The bottom and the left side or toward the back. I had to do that to route the wires.

Thanks for all of the feedback everyone. Sorry it's been so long but I wanted to post an update.
Used this battery disconnect from Amazon. It was very easy to install.
https://www.amazon.com/BEP-701-Battery-Switches-On-Off/dp/B005DUUL9W/ref=sr_1_1?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1508361205&sr=1-1&keywords=B005DUUL9W

I also needed a longer cable so I got this and had to drill the hole out a bit to make it larger.
