View Full Version : Valve gaskets
Is there a trick to getting valve gaskets lined up. I'm changing a 1 1/2 drain valve and have put it together 2x and keep getting a leak. Is it better to have the gaskets fitted on the flanges and then put the valve in or try to hold them in the valve. They don't sit very tight on the valve side. How do you hold them in place without three hands

Valve closed, a bit of grease on the seals to hold them on the flange. Spread the gap and insert valve assembly. Hand tighten two kitty corner screws.
Then put the other two screws in and tighten down. Operate the valve and if it's smooth you got it.
The other thing is the seals themselves. There are 3 different ones:
Valterra
Valterra BladeX
Bristol
You can use BladeX in either Valterra valve, but you have to use Bristol seals in a Bristol valve.
