First and foremost I know that there is probably thread after thread of this question however I am only looking for a "your good to go!" or a "You need to change out your china bombs."

Power King ST235/80R16 load range E. Is this one of the tires that many are switching from or should I not have to worry?

Thanks in advance. I started the weight insight thread as many of you have probably read however I cannot keep up with all of the post and I am hoping that this thread wont turn into that either.

In support of your previous request (red) I suggest you do a search on the forum say for tires. Plenty of information there ,,,,,:popcorn:

I have G614 Goodyears on my RV, I would recommend 14 ply tires for anything over 12k pounds. This is my 4th 5th wheel and have had my share of 8ply China Bomb blow outs [emoji20]just saying [emoji106]

Okay... now you opened that can of worms... :whistling:

I went with Carlisle Radial Trail HD tires on my 5th wheel... Others use Maxxis, Goodyear and Sailun... pick your poison...

LTS, hands down, you are towing one of the worst of the worst. Take heart in all that was said above. And you received four good brands from which to choose.

I have the same size as you and went with Maxxis. I also have Carlisle on the utility trailers. Either brand is good. Discount Tire has good prices and are almost located everywhere. They also match prices, like you getting a price from Walmart and them meeting that price.

I suggest you also get metal valve stems and make sure they balance the tires using the tape, stick-on weights if you have aluminum wheels. The metal stems will allow the addition of any tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) at a later date.

Sell the china bombs to someone with a farm trailer.

I replaced the Power King tires after one partial season with LTs (General Grabbers). This is the second ~12K 5er we have had with those tires and with good results so far. We have pulled our 5er through 110 degree Nevada, Texas and Arizona days with temps via the TPMS seldom going much higher (10-15 degrees) then ambient and nary a problem. The 5 Power King take offs in still good appearing shape were sold to two landscapers for a total of $210. I'll probably switch to Michelin XPS or Bridgestone Duravais steel belted rib tires for 2018 since my wheels, from what I can find, wont support the 110 air psig Sailun or Goodyear G614 tires.

My opinion is: deep-six the ST tires and install good quality LT tires.

I run Duravis R250 tires, however there are many good LT tires to choose from.

X2!

Discount Tire couldn't find Duravis R250's for me, so I went with Yokohama YK-HTX in a 235/85-16E @ 3,084 # each. our 5er has a GVWR of 12,360# so the LT cover the less than 10,000# on the axles. I trust an LT far more than an ST, just better tires.
I actually like the tread pattern better than the Duravis, more sipping for better wet traction.
