Keys will not work

Hello everyone! I just purchased my new 2016 Laredo 297SRE. I have already run into an issue. I cannot get the road side storage door unlocked. They gave me 2 copies of 3 different keys and none of them work. I can unlock the other side just fine. It seems that there is a key for the entry door, storage doors, and propane/battery door?

Is it a CH751 key? I've had trouble getting those to work in some locks before. The looks are not the best and sometimes you really have to fight with the key and lock to get them to cooperate. Some graphite or WD40 in the lock might help some, along with quite a bit of jiggling and so forth.

CH751 locks can be very frustrating and seem to be one of the overlooked items on a PDI. Pb Blaster works wonders and will keep the lock working good for years. If you have 3 different keys, do you have two entry doors? If not then is one of the keys a small key with a black plastic head and no markings? It is a knock off CH751 and comes with some outdoor showers.

To be honest I'm going to have to check when I get home tomorrow. I have just one door. You're right, I forgot that propane doesn't have locks.

May try pushing in the door a little and try the lock as the lock may be adjusted, too tight.

I figured out which key opened the curb side storage door but the road side is a no-go. I ended up crawling through and pushing up the releases manually. I took the outside handle off and I don't see any way of replacing the lock cylinder.

If both locks are rectangular and black pull handles, both sides should be the same. Either keyed the same as the entry door, or maybe a 330. I haven't been too lucky replacing just the cylinder. Try some Pb Blaster in the stuck lock.

Is it possible to get just the outside handle with the lock?

If it's the lock I'm thinking of, replacement is the entire assembly.

OK, I went back to the dealer today. Turns out that the unit was shipped with the wrong storage keys. They never checked.

At most dealerships the service techs don't use the keys that are in the sales department or in the owner's packet in the finance office. They use a master key that's on their own "tool box key ring"... Most techs don't ever see the owner's packet until the trailer is delivered to the owner at the "orientation/PDI" Even then, often the tech won't open the actual envelope with the keys in it, that's up to the salesman and the finance guy.

Part of the PDI process is verifying the owners packet has all the owners manuals, remotes and the keys and they ALL WORK. While I do have a set of "pass keys", I use the keys for the unit to verify they are correct. When I worked at a large dealership (17 techs) I did see some techs skip some steps.

Some units come with 1 key for all doors/compartments and it makes it easy.

The front-facing compartment and battery use the old 751. This means, including the main door, I have 4 different keys to this camper.
Also, my deadbolt and door latch are keyed the same. Isn't this unusual?

The locks on the pass through sand other storage doors should be easy to change if desired. It's a shame you would need to do that on a new rig. Having different keys for our front and rear door drives me nuts so I understand.

Cant say I've ever seen that happen. Not to say it doesn't but it would be a rare thing. I would have thought the dealer would have found and corrected it prior to delivery. Certainly is a warranty repair.

I've got 4 different keys for my T.H. A front door key, a rear door key, a different key for the two handles on the loading ramp (same key for both side of the ramp thank goodness) and the normal CH751 for storage compartment, fueling station, etc. I've added a set of keyed alike padlocks for the loading ramp, a padlock for the tongue lock, and then another (different key) for the u bolt lock that fits into the coupler.....for a grand total of 7 keys to the trailer. I eventually will replace the CH751 locks, but that is when I get motivated to do so.
