Good morning folks,

Wife and I are getting ready to pull the trigger on ordering a 2017 Montana 3720rl. We both love the floor plan. My question is can you get to the bathroom with the slides closed? If not, how far do you have to open the bedroom slide to get access? Is there a problem sleeping on the bed with slide part way open. Asking because we often boondock over night while traveling. I know this is something I should of thought to ask at the dealership, but I guess age is showing it's ugly head. I still intend to ask the dealer, but they are 100 miles away. Though I might get some real time input from the forum.
Thanks

Congrats on your selection, looks like a very nice unit. Do not have your unit only looked at the picture. My guess is looking at the picture that bedroom slide will not hit the wall and you may be able to squeeze by. now the bathroom door is another issue not sure how door swing/slides open. Think most of us look at RVs when all slides are open and fail to have them closed at a show or at the dealer. Its only when it gets home do we say OH CRAP how to we ...........

I think these slides are designed to be used either fully closed or extended, Think I have seen posts stating be careful not to step on slide floor when partially open. Would think using the bed on a partially open slide would be also a no no. Just my two cents. Again very nice layout

I don't have that model but was looking at it. We decided against it because you can't get to the Bath or Bed with the slide in. There are members here that have that model and they provided me the info.

RV slides are constructed and "seal provisions" are engineered so the slide is sealed against the outside elements when the slide is either in the fully open or the fully closed positions. The seals (not the wipers) are located on the inside and outside flange of the slide and make contact with the trailer sidewall only when the slide is open or closed. As for the wipers, they make contact with the sidewalls/top/bottom of the slide, but there are some fairly significant gaps at the corners which will allow rainwater, cold/hot air and insects to migrate into the RV while the slide is partially open.

As for using the bed in a partly open position, if the slide is hydraulic or an electric ram actuated slide, the structure will be supported such that it "should not" present a problem placing weight on the slide when partly open because the slide is supported by a solid, mechanical piston (ram) mechanism. If, however, the slide is a cable actuated slide, it is only fully supported when the slide is "locked" in the open or closed position. During travel the slide is only supported by the cable assemblies and it literally "swings" on the cables and pulleys that provide movement. I'd urge not to consider placing any additional weight on a cable actuated slide mechanism unless it is fully open or fully closed.

Thanks guys for the replies. I guess I will just have to look for places to stay over night that I can open the slide. Not to big a problem here in the west. Called Keystone and they do not recommend sleeping on the bed with slide partially open. Wife loves this floor plan sooooooooo Happy wife happy life.

Thanks again for the help

JRTJH,
I didn't know that (fully out / locked). Thank you.

you cannot get into the bathroom with the slides in, we have to extend about 6-8 inches.
it you want to enter the bedroom you would have to go through the bathroom or extend slide all the way. because of the bedroom door set up.
we have had to pull off the road to use the facilities and it was an easy 2 minutes to extend and retract the slides. we love our 3720rl the floor plan is great for us.

Both the bathroom and the kitchen should be accessable with the slides closed

most of the newer 3 slide units now have separate bathroom entries from either the bedroom or the hallway.
