Free Standing Dinette - How is it secured?

Hello everyone. First post (and I did search the forum) and I have a question.

My 2017 Elite 27RB came with a free standing dinette option. I contacted Keystone as well as asked my dealer and I cannot seem to get an answer. The question is how does the table get secured? Keystone indicates it comes with straps and that some have hooks on the walls where the straps attach. My unit did not have straps and the dealer gave me a couple of straps which don't seem to be long enough to do anything with and I suspect it was something they had lying around.

Can anyone provide guidance? I am sure that even if they weren't strapped down that they would not move much (if any), but this sure has me perplexed. Pictures are great too if anyone has them.

On our Cougar 318SAB we had a free standing table/chairs. There was an eye on the wall and one on the floor they were imobilized with a velcro strap. One on each side of the table. The table was screwed down to the floor.

Thank you for the reply. I have no eye to hook to currently. The table is bolted down.

Did you flip your chairs opposite of the table or did they just stay in the standard configuration?

The chairs stay as they are. The eye on the wall was at the level of the seats and the one on the floor was just down from the outside chair. One velcro strap for both chairs on each side of the table. It doesn't take much to hold them in place.

Can't speak to yours but my Arctic Fox had a free standing table and chairs and they never moved at all when traveling. Never strapped them down. The table and chairs just sat where they were. I'd try traveling a short distance and check it out. You may not need to worry about it.

We never use that system and only use one "buckle strap" about 18" long. We place it around the table base and through one leg of each of the chairs. That holds the chairs in place. I'd probably not do anything, except there's a very large window that sits next to the table. If the chairs ever "jostled against that window" ..... So, better safe than sorry, I suppose.

That is one place I never looked - the floor. Are the eyelets hidden in the carpet? My camper is at the storage lot at the moment but I will certainly check - just wondered where to look. I sure found a few loose staples in the carpet by the couch!!! But I didn't walk barefoot around the table - lol.

Our tie down eyelets are relatively small, "raw metallic silver" color and hide very well in the grayish/tan carpet. So it's very possible that you just didn't notice them.

Same here ~~ for the chairs only. Table is securely bolted to the floor. We put 2 chairs in storage as only the 2 of us and gives much more room.

Ours are the same. We also removed 2 chairs since it's just the two of us. We don't secure the chairs with the straps but strategically place chair cushions etc. to cushion various areas. We placed our ice maker beside one chair where we took one out and it works great. The chairs haven't moved in thousands of miles of travels.

We like Earl just have ours loose. The owners before unscrewed the table so it is loose as well. Seems to travel just fine.

We have a Passport Elite with a free standing table as well. My husband added eye hooks under the table on either side, & we secure the chairs with a strap. Ours did not come with any way to secure them, and as mentioned before, there is a window right there. Our new problem is the table has come loose twice now on trips. we have tried to re-attach it, but it still seems to come loose and moves quite a bit! Any suggestions?

You say that it comes loose. Isn't the pedestal bolted to the floor? Our table has never moved from the factory position. The only issue we've ever had is the chairs occasionally "migrate" from the travel position on very rough roads. Normally, we don't secure the chairs and they are in the same place as when we started.

Anyway, your table should be bolted to the floor of the slide. If it's not, then I'd address that first. Is your trailer still under warranty? Have you discussed this with the dealer?

The table is bolted down. The question was about the chairs. We figured out a system.

Our TT is a 2017 Cougar XLite. I removed the freestanding table by removing 4 wood screws from the pedestal.

My Springdale 252RL has the free standing table. It does collapse, if you push the release lever on the side. It then stands only a foot, or so, tall. At that point, you wedge it with some pillows and drive off. It hasn't moved since I discovered the collapse lever. In truth, I sometimes just stand it on its table top length side, put a few pillows around it, and have no trouble. The lever is sometimes temperamental. There are no hooks or straps to secure the table. It is actually meant to be an inside/outside unit.
