Shore power converter recommendations

Our spa bit the dust, so now I have a 50Amp, 240 volt electrical hook up at the house that is going unused. I would like to convert it to 110 volts so I can use it to hook up power to our 5th wheel (2015 Raptor). Does anyone have any suggestions on a good product to use?

Have an electrician who is familiar with RV wiring rewire and replace the outlet. Other than the outlet,no other products needed.

Aren't the Raptors big 5th wheels with 50A hookups? If so, you've already got what you need, you just need the right adapter on it so that the RV sees it as 2 x 50A x 110V... If you take a photo, one of us may be able to help.

No offense, but I like Hank's idea better. This site is full of manly men who decided to wire the 50 amp themselves or even worse, have a residential electrician wire it for them. I can smell the appliances cooking from here.....:eek:

It is possible your spa is 240 volts only. If that is the case you are missing a wire to do what you want.

If your spa is 240/120 (both 240 and 120), you are good to go. Just get a receptacle. I assume the spa is hard wired.

50 amp Rv/TT/5ers are standard 240/120 volt setups. The plugs are the same as any other 240/120 setup. They normally only use 120 volt devices, but that has nothing to do with the service.

The only thing an electrician needs to know is 240/120 50 amp. NEMA 14-50 is the plug and receptacle used.

There is no difference between a 50 amp camper service and a household 50 amp 240/120 (think electric range/oven combo) service. They are one in the same.

The 120 volt 30 amp camper setup is different and unique to campers though.

Thank you all for your responses. Crawled under the deck, and the wire to the departed spa has four leads. I think I will be good to go once I get the receptacle. Thank you, everyone.

Burlman......if you are comfortable doing the receptacle change out, the wiring goes like this....

Green......Ground
White.....Neutral
Black..... "X" terminal
Black or possibly a Red wire..... "Y" terminal

If you are knowledgeable of how to use a volt meter, you should have the following voltages.....
X to neutral...approx 125VAC
Y to neutral...approx 125VAC
X to Y....approx 250VAC
X to Ground...approx 125VAC
Y to Ground...approx 125VAC

The reason for approx voltages is that the 120V legs of the incoming power vary from home to home. Yours might be 120.9...or 122.3 or 124.8 So mostly you should be seeing between 120VAC and 125VAC.

If you are the LEAST BIT UNCOMFORTABLE doing this....OR if you are not 100% sure of what you are doing, call a qualified Electrician that knows what you need and of course, REMOVE ALL Power to the circuits before starting your work and VERIFY with a meter that there is an absence of voltage at the wires.

Keep in mind...

If you aren't taking this task on yourself and hire an electrician, there are a couple of things you can explain that might make the the process smoother:

The RV 30 amp service is a 3-wire, 120 volt only, 30 amp service. The plug and receptacle are RV specific and is a NEMA TT30.

The RV 50 amp service is a 4-wire, 240/120 volt, 50 amp service. The plug and receptacle are standard and are not RV specific and is a NEMA 14-50.

That will make sense to your electrician. Sometimes they think RV's are a big mystery and want nothing to do with them.
