Drain hook ups

Going to soon be going to our first park. Do you hook into the sewer and leave all the valves open? Or do most let things build up a day or so and then dump? My thoughts are to leave the Gray waters open and let the black build up so it flows out . I have a rinse so I suspose I could leave all open and just rinse ..

I leave all valves closed until the tanks are full or nearly full, especially the black tank. Never leave the black tank valve open while using it.....the liquid will drain away and the solids will build up and cause BIG problems.:banghead:

When connected to sewer system in a park, unless you create a water block loop in your waste hose, and with any drain valves open, your rig will be a sewer vent for the entire park, as the gas will travel through the hose, through your tanks, and out the vent on the roof, or worse, into your rig's living area.

You want to leave your black water tank valve closed until your ready to dump. I also leave my gray water valve closed because I use the gray water to flush my sewer hoses after dumping the black water.

We don't even hook up our sewer hose until we are ready to leave, then we hook up and dump our tanks while packing up the trailer. There have been a couple times we stayed an extended stay, we dumped after about 4 days, then again when we were packing up.

Leave them closed for the reasons mentioned above. My first trip staying over 2 months I decided I got tired of opening and closing the valves so determined to leave the gray valves open. Upon getting ready to leave I found the sewer drain hose had turned into just a trough of "mush" inside. I had to wait until I got home to put a power washer to it. The resulting work from being lazy was far more trouble than just opening the valves on "dump" day.

As said black closed. I leave my grey open because I hate standing in water while in the shower and our grey tank fills in less than 24 hours and I do not want to have to remember to open it daily.

If your kitchen sink uses the same grey tank, your dumping food particles that will stick and cause issues. I do dump my gray every evening and some days twice, I would rather dump than deal with the smell.

Thanks again.. in the boat all the grey goes overboard.. and the tank is just for the black. I will let it build up a bit and dump.. Heading out today hoping to keep ahead of the cold that is coming.. Soon I will be a pro :)

Oddball here our Alpine was open for 5 years with no issues. We used lots of water and just let it go. Grey was open all the time too.

I leave my black closed, but barely crack open my gray valve until the last showers of the weekend. I then close the gray and let it fill to rinse out any particles and the dump hose.

I could see how using lots of water would allow leaving open.. Where I am now I have been told there is also the possibility of creatures climbing up from below in the hose.. I have seen sites with caps not installed.. I could see this happening.. I have decided I don't leave open and just empty weekly..
