Proud new owner of Passport 2810bh! Questions

Hello everyone! I would like to hear from the 2810bh owners, on the must haves. Any mods that made their campers better? What vehicle they are pulling with? I have a F150 Super Crew 3.7 Gear ratio with Reese sway Control. I haven't taken it out on the maiden Voyage yet. Was wondering if others were pulling with F-150 if they had any sway problems. is to much trailer for my Truck? I am with in of the 83% tow rating so my weight is OK. Any answers is very much appreciated!

I have a 2015 2810bh. Check your tires on your TV. They are probably passenger car tires. I would upgrade the tires to an LT tire. I have a Load Range D tire on my Ram 1500. When you get everything loaded you'll probably be around 6000 lbs. I'm just under 6000 lbs on the trailer and I'm at 57% of my towing capacity. I think it's just right. I notice some push from semis and high wall vehicles if they pass my on interstates.

I've done a few mods:
Vortex II Fan in the kitchen ceiling vent
TPMS for tires (TST 507)
Winegard RV-WING Wingman
LED Bulbs inside
LED Strip on the outside
Husky Electric Tongue Jack with remote
Bug covers on the furnace, water heater, and fridge vents
Shower curtain Ext-a-shower
Oxygenics shower head
Maxair II vent cover
Television in the master bedroom
Ran a Cat6 cable to outside for a Wifi antenna
Added 2 - 6v batteries (went from 65a to 210a)

Welcome to the forum from Southern MD. I have a 2016 2810BH. We love our rig. We may upgrade when we go full time in a few years so we can get more room. Like "Mfifield01" I added LED lights to the inside and a strip on the outside. I have an over the door hook on the bathroom door for towels. Also have an over the door toilet paper holder that puts the roll inside the bathroom cabinet. I added a foam topper to the mattress. Put Carlisle Radial Trail HD tires load range D tires on the TT. I use a clear adapter on the sewer drain so I can see when it's running clear. I have command hooks all over the place by the door for miscellaneous stuff like jackets and keys. I also have one on the bathroom medicine cabinet for the hand towel. I added carpet runners to the main steps. I'm going to put a lightweight self stick backsplash up around the stove.

Make sure you check the RTV seals around the clearance lights. I had one crack and leak after last winter. Several of us with this model have had the water lines to the HW heater vibrate just loose enough to start leaking out from under the bunk. Take the time to remove the bunk board under the mattress and tighten the joints on those water lines now. It will save you some work later. I'm going to do a mod to the seals where the slide cables come through. "Slow" posted that mod.

I tow with a Silverado 1500 5.3 3:43 rear with LT tires in it. I use an Equalizer hitch. I do get some sway when the big rigs go by but not a white knuckle situation. It improved when I adjusted the hitch. Heavy winds and gusts from the side will create some sway too. Keep an eye on your tire pressures on the TV and TT and keep your speed down to 60 and you should do fine. Watch out for curbs too. Had one bite a couple tires this summer. Most of all have fun and post pictures.

Thanks Fellas for the replies! I checked my tires on F-150 and yes they are P-rated tires. They are rated for 115 T (2550 Lbs). Which gives me 10,000 total pounds. I need tires that could handle 14,000 total pounds. Why would Ford do this with a Tow Package Vehicle. It should come with rated tires for towing. I guess they just want to save a buck! My trailer came with Led bulbs and the outside led strip. I just bought a used Honda Inverter and power Tongue jack. So next on the list I guess is LT rated tires and helper springs for added sway control. For My long trip to Band Lands then Yellow stone and Finally Zion National park UT.

The tires are rated for your truck's gross vehicle weight ratio (GVW), not your rig's gross COMBINED weight ratio (GCWR). The GVWR includes the weight of your vehicle, passangers, cargo, and any additional payload (ie tongue weight). So, if the curb weight of your truck is 5700 lbs, and you add your passangers and cargo (let's say another 400 lbs) plus the trailer's added tongue weight of let's say 750 lbs, your now at a GVW of 6850 lbs. Spread out over 2 axles and 4 tires, you should be okay.

The problem with P-rated tires is the extensive sidewall flex you may get under heavy load. LT tires will flex much less and give your TV stability.

There are two types of P rated tires, SL and XL. Tire rack has your tire listed as an standard load (SL) tire. XL signifies "Extra Load", a stiffer tire for towing. My Yukon XL Denali has the same size OE wheel and tire. I purchased Cooper Discoverer H/T Plus last year as replacements for the OEM Bridgestone Duelers. The Coopers are rated 117T (XL), a higher load rating. The Duelers were only 111S (SL). I would have bought equivalent Michelin's but they were rated 113 (SL) and they were twice the price of the Coopers. For this size tire, there aren't many LT options out there. So far, with about 7,000 miles of towing this past season, the Coopers performed wonderfully. If I get 3 more seasons out of them, I'll be happy. They still look like new...inflated to 50 lbs while towing.

It's hard to find an LT tire for a 20" rim. I got the BF Goodrich A/T KO2 in a 275/60-20. They are Load Range D. I typically run the front tires at 50 PSI and the rear at 55 PSI when towing. They are rated up to 65 PSI.

How do those BF Goodrich A/T KO2 handle on high speeds? I've read reviews they are little noisy and not good in the rain. It's a good looking tire and it's one of the only LT tires I've seen.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I was surprised at how little noise they have for being an A/T. I only hear some noise under 10 mph. No issues in rain. The only negative is that I feel they reduced my MPG a little unloaded. They weigh more and have better traction than the stock tires.

I also have the BFGoodrich AT's and I have no issues with them. They are known for being a long lasting tire. Keep them rotated, aligned, and at proper pressure and they do great. They are heavier than some tires and sometimes that makes it harder to balance, but I would buy another set tomorrow if these were worn out. Happy trails and safe travels!

I had some 30mph wind gusts about a week ago while towing my 2810bh. It wasn't that comfortable, but I didn't have any sway. I would feel the trailer move and then the hitch would push it back in line. It was pushing my truck around the lane, but I wasn't out of control.

Thanks for the reply mfifeild01. I just bought the trailer because i got a very good price on it. So I only drove it the storage place. I was a little worried for the size of the camper and the truck being a F150. The wife had her heart set on the 2810bh. If it was up to me I would went with the 24 footer. She refused to go camping with me unless it was that model. It is no fun going alone! LOL Good to know all these things before the maiden voyage.

Congrat's on your new camper. I tow mine with a Dodge Ram 1500 with the 5.7 Hemi with no issues.

I have done many mods. The best so far was adding an electric tongue jack. I got a Husky Brute model rated at 4,500 lbs. It will lift the rear tires of my TV off the ground.

The next was replacing the bathroom vent with a real fan. Big improvement!

Another must have for me was adding a 6 place outlet strip along the kitchen counter under the window.

Since i do cold weather camping I also added an exterior vent to the range hood. This involved cutting a hole in the wall so I waited until the warranty had expired.

Although not a mod, I got a set of Anderson levelers which make leveling the camper a breeze.

I also bought a set of Timbrens to help with sway on the truck.

My wife also wanted this trailer because of the couch, as I wanted the shorter one too lol!

I guess they say happy wife, happy camping Life! I just bought the electric tongue jack, the KO2 tires for the truck and the oxygenics shower head. My next purchase that I was thinking was either air bags or helper springs. Been doing a lot of research still undecided yet. I have to make a decision soon before we go out. My F150 is the aluminum body.
