Not sure what it is called but the long 8" "plug" when pulled is pitted/corroded. And there was a "white substance" that drained out of the water heater...???

Also the youtube video says to blow out the system with a compressor the pressure should not exceed 35#... Do I buy an add on device? I had never used a regulator with our old 5th Wheel?

The corroded plug you referenced is a sacrificial anode. Google RV Water heater anode for pictures of new, partially used, time to change anodes to give you an idea of how yours compares.

re: 35# of air is about what I use to initially blow out my lines. I just dial the regulator on my air compressor down to about 35# and use a air adapter plug on my city water inlet

I use a product called "The Works - basic" that is available at the Dollar Store to remove the calcified hardness off of the anode in our trailer. I put a limited amount on the rod, let 'fizz' for a while, then wash off. The Works is mildly acidic and dissolves the hardness; it's a great product for removing hard water spots from most everything, especially bathroom fixtures.

The small looking nipple on the adapter that you referenced does not appear to be the same type of pressure hose connector I use on my compressor. How do you connect your compressor to the adapter nipple?

$21 is a little stiff for an anode...but then again, its CW. I just bought a couple magnesium anodes from:

And I did locate the manual for the compressor and now know how to regulate my pressure...

Don,
The adapter quoted will not connect to your compressor air hose connector. To use the one in that link, you'd need a short piece of 1/4" clear hose to push onto the connector and then use another male adapter on your compressor air hose.

Here is the correct one to connect to your air hose quick connect fitting. Screw it into the city water connector and then attach it to your air hose: https://www.amazon.com/Camco-36143-Brass-Quick-Connect/dp/B002XL2IEA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1475780400&sr=8-1&keywords=RV+water+system+blow+out+plug
