Key Fob Remote Dead

Do these things take batteries or are they throw away. I sure can't figure out how to open it without FORCE!!

Well this morning awake with a clearer head I managed to get it open without breaking it. It tool a knife because there's no notch to pry in to separate the two halves. Now to head out tofind a battery
