Interesting article in Sept. issue. Without repeating the story, some highlights.
The tires are made in Thailand but, they claim they are better than others because they own the factory and control and watch over the work. They say they are made differently than others and because of that stronger tires.
They recommend rotating tires among the balancing and keep checking the PSI but, do not mention at max. Also they say their tires are engineered to run faster than 80 mph but, limits speed rating to 65. The article is 4 pages long and is good reading if you can read it.
I type slowly and get timed out if I type to much. So, that's all. Others add what you got from the article.

It is a good read. They are good tires, I'm on my 2nd set.
It would be informative if they would review others that are known to be inferior, but that's not likely.

Had my mind made up between Maxxis and Carlisle and decided on Carlisle. Had I not, the 3 dealers I called locally did not have a supplier for Maxxis. I've read on the FR site where others had problems finding them also which is a concern far from home.

Did you notice the 1/2 page paid ad on pages 16 & 17 before the article on page 39?

Yes, about the add, I am not selling them, just reporting the facts (as the article says). We all need to make up our own minds for our own reasons before giving anyone our money. I have never owned those but, may some day.

Have to admit I was a little disappointed by such a biased article. Maxxis are certainly good tires--no argument there--but there are other good tires, too, and no mention of them.

I don't see it as a biased article ~~ they just received extra for their advertising dollars. They paid for 2 half page ads and probably signed a contract for future advertising. I don't recall seeing any ads by them in the past, but there may have been. No doubt they are a very good tire, they were #2 on my list.

Read the article twice now. The 6k mile test didn't seem like much to me though. I've got a little over 6k on our Trail King original equipment China bombs that came with the Cougar. They look as good as the Maxxis but I'm still not trusting them much. Hoping to get a couple of seasons out of the TK's (need to let the checkbook heal up a little) before upgrading to the Maxxis E version.
I put GY Marathons on our last TT and we were pretty happy with those. Would like to hear from others re any suggested tire options. (tx)

Canon, I know this is what you said, "Hoping to get a couple of seasons out of the TK's," but this is what you actually should have said: I hate to part with the money, but to save the entire freaking side of our nice, new trailer I'm going to trash those China bombs and get five new__________. Fill in the blank with Sailuns, Maxxis, Goodyears.......you heard it here first! This is the voice of a check from GEICO for $9200 speaking.

My friend you preaching to the choir. Sorry to hear of your poor but all too common tire experience.
We do like to travel with the new Cougar. And, we do enjoy "Peace of Mind".
Yes, I am very leery of the TK reputation for shredding. That's why I'm seeking info on the best tire option for our RV style.
I hear you loud and clear. "We are living on borrowed time" with the TK's.
Cougar is in the shop now for some warranty work, so we are down to a fall trip into western CO as our probable last trip of the season.
We don't have a dealer for Maxxis close, but Discount Tire sells Carlile and I can still get Marathons.
Don't know which is worse, Pucker Factor driving with the TK's or the pending "discussion" with the DW/VP of Finance to convince her replacing new tires makes sense.
For now, I'm thinking "conflict avoidance", 65 mph and regularly checking tire pressures may be the only course available for this season.

Maxxis or Carlisle's for me. Like right this instant. In fact, one of the first things I did was change to Maxxis tires, balanced with metal stems...and just recently a TST507 TPMS. :thumbsup:

Here are some pictures of the INSIDE of my "recently removed" Trailer King tires. NONE of this "time bomb waiting to happen" is visible when the tires are mounted and at correct pressure. They look "perfectly normal" yet the tread is, as you can readily see, separated from the tire carcass. The bubbles and tread separation can not be seen, even by removing the wheel and rolling it along your drive. It's visible only when the tire is deflated and removed from the wheel. So, you "may" be towing with 4 defective tires "as you read this" and there's no way you'd ever know by looking at what's on your trailer.

From my perspective, with an insurance deductible of $500 and the cost to install the new Carlisle tires being $436, I actually saved $64 by getting new tires this spring. Why am I so "certain" that I saved money? Well, just look at the pictures. And, if (a big two letter word) your tires have the same problem, you'll know it when you either "demount them" or when someone passes you while towing, pointing back at your trailer....

Canonman, for what it is worth I have 4 seasons and 11,000 miles on my OEM TK tires. I do have 4 load range D tires on a trailer with an axle weight of 4,650 lbs, so I am 1,400lbs below the tire max weight assuming I am close to balanced weight wise.

I really credit this to my good with the tires, that said new Maxxis are going on at the start of next season.
