Went though a rain and wind event that resulted in a running motor sound coming from the furnace. No air moving so assume the fan is not running. The only way to stop the run away motor was to pull the fuse. After a couple of hours put the fuse back in and all appears to be normal.

Any clue as to what is going on?

my guess is rain got some wiring wet and may have caused a normally open circuit to close. This completed the motor circuit and thus gave motor power. When things dried out the circuit opened back up and motor had no power to run. It may be at the circuit board this happened. Make sure all covers are in there proper places. Otherwise did it operate a heat cycle and didn't shut off after? That would be another issue. Try and be as detailed as possible as to the full event that took place.

On another note if you were plugged into shore power this could be your inverter fan operating as this also makes a fan noise and it is perfectly norimal for it to cycle on and off.
