$19 HF receiver (http://www.harborfreight.com/3500-lb-capacity-step-bumper-receiver-67159.html) and $8 in clamps...easier for me than finding a welder.

HitchGrip (http://www.amazon.com/HitchGrip-HG712-Orange-Hitch-Coupling/dp/B00HSO37B0?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00) is the easiest way for an old guy with a bad back to move his hitch.

Pretty good idea! How do you like that orange grip?

The grip is pricey for what it is but it does work very well. Picking the hitch up as in my picture allows one to easily slide it in/out of the receiver because the whole thing is balanced. It causes way less of a strain on me because I'm not picking up the heavy hitch with two hands while holding the greasy ball away from my belly ;)

Great idea.
I put mine in the storage compartment.

I saw this someplace else recently. Good idea. I generally leave mine on the truck or drop it on the ground under the A frame.

I think I would want it mounted vertically, so the ball would be toward the tanks and it would not stick out so far.

Nice Idea.

Thanks,

-Brian

-BrianTo each his own but my reasons for mounting it like I did are because for me, vertically would be way more awkward to align so one would need to be fit enough for that. Plus if you wanted to lock it you'd have to play with the depth in order to get the lock pin in.

I find that having it on the back side of my frame like that is out of the way while affording me the ease of using my HitchGrip...but there are many ways to skin a cat ;)

Oh, I agree and was not trying to tell you how to do it :D

I was thinking the first time the DW got grease on her clothes I would hear how not to do it.

It was a great idea and I did not even consider the aspect of locking it in.

Thanks,

-Brian

My only thought was it being a shin buster, like when it's left on the back of the truck, but if you mount it as close to the trailer as possible, that should solve the problem.

I would be afraid of leaving the hitch there while in storage, but while at the camp ground, I thinks it's an excellent idea, one I will probably steal.

Bob, you're right about the grease...I keep a cut in half water bottle over the ball. And no offense taken about the comment, I just wanted to explain my thought process for the installation.

I located it there because that's the side I usually unhook from so it seemed logical plus my wife never goes behind the camper and because even though it sticks out a bit it is nowhere near sticking out past the side of the camper so when you walk around the front of the camper you (I) don't even come close to it when I'm heading for the storage door on that side.

Anyway, if you clamp it like I did you can play around with location but I doubt you'll see it as a shin buster when installed.....vertically just seems too difficult to stow in my opinion.

I also almost want to cut off the d-rings for the chain hookup to make it easier to get at the locking pin.

From a fellow guy with a bad back (fused L4/L5 in march) i use a dolly now and a floor jack to insert into truck once in it stays in.
