Backward back-ins?

We're planning our trip to the Smokies and on to Indy 500 next month. First stop I planned is at Hollywood Casino at Bay St. Louis, MS. We stopped there a couple years ago. Something in my old brain was bothering me about the place. I eventually remembered, it has backward back ins. The sites are on the passenger side of the street. Can't see anything. Start backing up and turning, look out the drivers mirror and see the street, look out the passenger side mirror and see the front of the trailer. It is a fairly new CG. Just about requires 2 people to get in. Anyone else seen anything similar?
I guess I could constantly adjust the mirrors but...it is so much easier to back in a site on the drivers side.

I agree. I call this a "Blind Back In". The driver's side back in is certainly the preferred way to go.

Where at all possible, for the Blind Back In, I have someone else behind me (usually the DW) to guide me. She's really getting the hang of it. I still jump out 5 times to check.

Our storage lot requires a Blind Back In every time. It's threading a needle between 2 other 5th wheels. During the day, it's not too bad. I jump out multiple times for sure. I do adjust the passenger mirror as I'm pivoting to be able to see where I'm at as I'm backing in. I've done this at night and alone and it can be very frustrating but it can be done.

There are 2 things to remember when backing up blind:
1.) Take nothing for Granted - Get out and check AND
2.) Take nothing for Granted - Get out and check again!!! :)

Ditto on take nothing for granted and get out and check. I have seen a few campgrounds set up that way. Makes you wonder if the excavator was looking at a plan upside down.

Howdy All;

Think about which way you look "over your shoulder " when you back-up
without a trailer ... then you can tell that the designer doesn't do any RVing
otherwise they have got it right the first time...

About half the places we go are like this. If at all possible I will drive the long way around and even go the wrong way on a one way if I can. And yes, I get out many times to double check...

I think the 'backwards' sites that we put trailers into are really normal sites if you nose in a motor home, and have the utilities on the street side and entry door on the curb side. I, too, have been to a number of parks where it's all weird, but thinking of pulling in a motor home, and it makes sense.

Well.....if a MH pulled in head first their awning side would be opposite the sitting patio and picnic table. It ain't nothing but messed up.

I have that fun at my house. 80 degree blind backin to get in the drivweay with the house on the passenger side and a fire hydrant on the blind side that sits in my side yard 15' in from the street and about 5' from my driveway. The fire hydrant makes it interesting. Then I have a 10' gate to back through. After navigating all that those CG spots still can drive me crazy at times. And one of my favorite spots at my local state park is blind side, on a curve. Fun times. :)

A lot of our state parks are blind side with the site at an angle to the road. I just assumed it was to give you a little more private patio area. I don't don't find it that difficult. I watch my tires in the mirror until I lose them and then I turn around and look out the windows. I also back driver side or blind side into my driveway without much difficulty. But then I'm a truck driver. Now blind side backing a 53' semi with no rear windows is a different story lol!

I will say I have a choice at my house. My street is a loop so I can always back in on the drivers side. My driveway is like a boat ramp. My rear levelers just kiss the ground coming and going. When I look in my mirrors all I see is concrete. I have run off the drive a couple of times. Then back it in through a 16 foot gate, onto the gravel, and on the 2x10's.

It is common here in the Midwest, many campgrounds here have one way roads with sites on both sides of the road. Just take it easy and double check when backing in.

Motorhomes? If they go in nose first all the utilities will be on the wrong side. Otherwise, I encounter it a lot and like many others, I use my wife for a spotter and also get out and look. It's just a fact of RVing.

I try too always pick a site that I can back in on the driver's side, right now when backing into my driveway I can swing and come in driver's side, but the State and County are planning on making the road a 4 lane divided highway, so when that happens I will be force too back in passenger side:banghead:
