Andersen Fifth Wheel Hitch W/ Short Bed

Anyone have experience in using Andersen 5th wheel hitch and towing a keystone cougar 336bhs? I pick mine up Saturday. I am going to be towing with a Ford F-250 Short Bed and my concerns are clearance on all sides of the pin box when turning and the backing of the 5th wheel itself?

Anyone with this setup please let me know your thoughts.

I have a 336bhs and tow it with a ram 2500 with 6.5 bed and a Reese slider hitch (slider recommended by dealer) I have several trips in it and have never HAD to slide it to turn it back in to any spot. I am glad I have it but the cap and set up on the trailer is very nice. I watch it like a hawk when backing this is my first fifth wheel so i am learning.
I know this thread is about Anderson but I wanted to chime in about the 336. I really like the turning radius it gives you.

that is good to know i was curious about that max turn capability. sounds like it really pays off. I have a friend with a Keystone Raptor and he says he is yet to use the slider on his hitch as well. We both have the 6'3/4" truck bed.

I have a 03 Montana and I have the BW companion hitch no slider in my 15 F250 and have not had a problem. I have made some tight turns also. Just go slow on tight turns and you should be fine. My hitch is set to the forward most possession also.

I have a Fuzion and a 2014 ram 3500 with 6'4" bed. I use a sidewinder and there have been numerous times I have needed to go to 90 to get into a spot or when storing it and there is no way I would of made it without a slider/sidewinder etc. rams bed might be a touch shorter than fords though?

You might look at this posting before you tow with an Anderson in a SB.

that above^^ is why I didnt chance a non slider or anderson on my setup. There are so many things to think about and be looking at when backing into a site, or maneuvering 27000 lbs in tight quarters that I didnt want to have to worry about a 1 in 100 what if moment that would lead to my window blown out or worse....ymmv

I had the Andersen ultimate fifth wheel hitch in a 15 ram mega cab. While backing cab contacted trailer and dented the cab and blew the rear window out. Think the ford has a longer shorbed. Now we have a superglide....

Hi Tyler. So what direction did you take and how did it work out? We will be getting the 336 soon and I am in a similar dilemma. I like the versatility of the Andersen, but the security of a slider.

The 2017 336 has an extended kingpin to help with shortbeds (I believe the '16 did as well). I've been told the Andersen will provide ample clearance, but would like some clarification from someone that has been there/done that.

I own the 336 as well. My current setup is a 2015 Chevy HD crew cab with the standard bed length. I have the Andersen 2, which is the newest revision and I have never had any trouble with turning radius.

Rams bed is slightly shorter than others so if I have ford or chevy and a sculpted front cap, you might be ok. I have a ram so I didn't want to chance it
