2016 26BHSWE bathroom access with slide in

We have a bit of a predicament with the bathroom door and the slide "in". I can't get into the bathroom. Makes it a pain to winterize, as I found out in November. It's not that big a deal to move the slide out so I can get in to the bathroom, but more to the point of my query is if one on the kids need to "go" on the side of the road, it's not in my best interest to slide out on the side of the highway.

I suggested taking the door off when traveling, but the hinge pins don't come out. I suggested replacing the door with a curtain, my wife won't go for that.

My latest brainstorm is to rearrange the door so it opens into the bathroom. Anyone done this?

One of the members has, in fact, reversed the bathroom door. I don't recall the model of his trailer (or his name). Try doing a forum search. Seems like it was a year or more ago.

One of the members on the board added an accordion door to replace the stock door. Sounded like a good idea for mine but I doubt the wife would go for it. It may be a good option for you though.

Do you have the room to secure the door in the open position before retracting the slide???? I seem to remember other members doing this in past posts. This problem was one of our factors for choosing the model we own. (access to fridge and toilet while on the road ) JM2¢, Hank

I removed my door and replaced it with an accordion door from Home Depot, the colours match and it looks good, you don't lose much if anything as far as privacy is concerned and it's very convenient to be able to access bathroom at rest stops

Ok, I have a different model but, leave the door open as the slide when closed holds it. Also if you have not figured this out. In my model I open the slide about 1/4 way and get thru the unit find. Just do not step on the slide floor. Here we have rest areas and or parking lots to park when traveling and find a spot to open the slide fully to eat lunch etc.

A bit more info. I can't hold the bathroom door open into the slide as there isn't enough room. As I look at the bathroom, the door swings in to the main area hinged on the right, and the slide is right there.

As it is, with the slide in, I can open the door about 8 inches before it hits the dinette on the slide. Believe me I've tried, but there's no way I can suck it in enough to fit through the door.

I'm hoping I can modify the hinges so I can take the pins out, otherwise I'll have to flip the door around. Hoping I have enough room in the bathroom to swing the door.

One of the DW must haves, when we were camper shopping, was the ability to use the bathroom while on the road and the 22RBPR allows access, with the slide in.

The fit is a little tight, between the dinette and the kitchen sink, but we can both do it.

Have you considered the possibility of a 2-section "folding door" - one that is hinged in the middle? These doors don't swing out so much but not sure if even a reduced swing would allow you to squeeze by.

An earlier post mentioned an accordion door. They can be bought in a variety of different colors and styles and will maintain the privacy needed for a bathroom. That would be my choice but it's not my unit!

I looked at your floor plan and photo's of your trailer and like my trailer there is not enough room for a bifold door, with the accordion door installed the slide just has room to slide by, it's an easy cheap install and actually looks like it came from the factory, Keystone should be doing it.

Interesting, we tend not to use the bathroom but instead head to rest areas if we need to stop. As for winterizing, I always have the slides open as we are also cleaning and bringing in a few things. If we did want to use the bathroom, we have a door to the outside so it would be easy. I know no one would be happy if we had a different door.

Although we can access our bathroom just fine with the slides in we have never used in while traveling. Between rest areas to stretch and filling stations to fill up we've never found a need to use the bathroom in the trailer.

When 5er shopping we were not concerned about getting to the refer as a cooler is packed for the days travel. I like to munch while driving rather than stop. Our concern was to be able to get to the bathroom and bedroom with slides in should we stop at a rest stop or ?? for a nap.

I can't get into the bathroom with my slide in. Last trip of the year I just winterize it right there on side. I just get full hookup.

Okay guys, I have successfully swapped the door around so that it opens in to the bathroom.

Now, don't get me wrong, I'm satisfied with the result, but I think I might move the door again so it swings to back up against the wall rather than the sink. That'll be a project for this weekend.

The dinette in our slide out goes up to within 4 inches of the bathroom door. When traveling, we leave it open before retracting and place one of the dinette cushions against it. When the slide out is fully retracted, the dinette holds the cushion snug against the door. Problem solved. DW uses the bathroom while I'm pumping gas. And then we're off."bouncey:

I'm 99% positive I don't have that much room to swing the door open, and even if I did, the wall it is attached to is angled so I don't think it would open that far. And the fact that the DW likes to rush things would no doubt lead to her ripping the bathroom door off its hinges if I wasn't there to make sure she didn't, so I think it's best I just swapped the door around.

I have a 2016 Passport 2670BHWE ...... I had the same problem with the bathroom door. There is a much easier fix that any of these suggestions.

Lift the bottom mattress and put a small screw up next to the trim. Tie a piece of string onto the screw (I used 550 cord) and put a loop in the end of the string. Open the bathroom door and loop the string over the door knob. If you make the string short enough, the door will not bang around or swing back and forth and tear stuff up.

Now the door is secure while traveling. But, you can still use the bathroom with the slide out IN. The only issue is ...... you can't fully close the door when using the bathroom with the slide in. But, you can close the door up against the slide out frame. There will be a slight gap. But there will be more than enough privacy for you to do your business.

When you arrive at your destination, take the loop off the door knob and tuck the string up under the mattress. No one will ever see the string or know it's there. No need for mods or taking doors off or replacing doors. The only time you'll use the string is when you are traveling.
