I have a 2016 Passport Elite 23rb. The brochure says Shipping weight 4720, Carrying capacity 2080 and hitch 530. So, total weight of the tt could be 6800 max? Don't know what the hitch 530 means. Can't be max tongue weight?

Thanks, Chuck

The "brochure hitch weight" is the "estimated weight" of the hitch as the "standard build" trailer leaves the factory. When shipped, the "standard build" trailer has empty propane tanks, no battery, no optional equipment and often times, no spare tire. Any optional equipment you add to the "standard build" will change the shipping weight and the hitch weight as well as reduce the carrying capacity.

So, essentially, the "brochure hitch weight" is a "fantasy figure"....

I'd suggest using the GVW of the trailer and estimating two figures for a "hitch weight range". Usually travel trailer hitch weight is between 10% and 15% of trailer weight, so for your 6800 pound trailer, you should expect a "hitch weight somewhere between 680 - 1020 pounds. Remember, you'll also need to add the weight of your hitch into the "calculations" since it's not a part of the trailer, nor a part of the tow vehicle.

ADDED: The specs on the 2016 23RBS have changed on the website. Currently they are reflected as:
Shipping Weight 4747
Carrying Capacity 2053
Hitch 565

The GVW remains the same, but the shipping weight and hitch weight are different than your posted figures.

Thank you very much, John. As the GVW remains the same, I guess that that is all I need to be concerned with.

Thank you, Chuck

Nice trailer.

FYI: with propane, battery and fresh water your tongue weight will be north of 850 lbs based on our 2015 model. Much higher than the dry tongue weight.

My dry hitch weight was listed at 565 lbs. After loaded up, it's around 700 lbs. That is without fresh water.

Under current standards; "If applicable, the weight of full propane tanks must be included in the RV's UVW."

See FMVSS 571.110 paragraph S9.3.2

Just for comparison, I'm around 700 lbs without any fresh water. I filled the tank up this past weekend. I was around 840 lbs with fresh water. My dry claimed hitch weight is 565.

I guess I'm one of few, where the provided dry weight spec and weight was bang-on.
