So''s here a question for you Chevrolet folks, (guess it really does not matter what make). In search of getting new key for my 2006 Silverado. Dealership wants an arm and a leg for one. I had a spare made a key store, however it is only a blank key, no fod. Any ideas on where to get an inexpensive complete key.

You can buy a replacement fob off of Ebay for around $30 or so. Programming the truck to work with it is very easy.

Some Key replacement places have the FOB type keys, and advertise it that way, but ask and verify if they guarantee it to work. The local guy who does the keys mentioned some brands work, but not 'exactly' right - and I don't remember about the Chevy ones. Definitely less expensive! I had to get one from the dealer for my Mazda (car), as my friend said it wouldn't work right with my car, and dealer one was $210. Thanks a lot Mazda.

Try here:

When we bought our '05 Mariner it only came with one key. Total for key cut and programming from mobile locksmith was about $75.00

So, I found a key FOB on Amazon. It was like $20.00. Now on;y thing I have to do is figure out how to program it to the truck. Dealer wants $60.00, ouch. Any suggestions.

IIRC the link I provided, they send programming for free with purchase.

Chuckster57 - Well isn't this a bunch of BS. I know it's late in some parts of US, however I opened the linked you referred to and check the programming instructions for GM Products. Followed the instructions and low and behold the remote now works. The dealership wanted to charge me $60.00 dollars for this. I can't believe that. Took me about ten minutes. Thx Chukster57.

i have a '06 chevy and i just go to any hardware store for the key.

my key is just a blank key without and chip, that should be the same with yours.

as for the remote you can always buy them on ebay.

Is there supposed to be a key to access the car if the fob doesn't work? That could be the blank one. I bought a slightly used Corvette and the dealer gave me 2 fobs and one blank key. After reading the manual and realizing the key was for access, I got the dealer to cut the blank.

Last time I had a fob (chip) for our 07 Duramax made it was at ACE hardware.
