I'm trying to determine why my tow vehicle battery died after sitting for 3 days hitched to my Keystone Cougar. The Cougar was receiving 30 amp shore power and I had it's battery disconnect switch set to OFF. Shouldn't the battery disconnect switch have freed my truck's battery from usage?

Your camper should have no "Parasitic" drain from your tow vehicle battery when the ignition is in the off position if you're properly wired. Either your isolation circuit is not working, or it is pure coincidence, in MHO.

Good luck,

You've confirmed what I suspected. It probably was just pure coincidence.

Depends on the truck. Newer trucks like my ford have a relay that disconnects 12v from the vehicles 7 pin connector. There are trucks out there that are always hot if the fuse is in. Also if the battery disconnect on the trailer is in the off position, on most trailers this will prevent the converter from charging the battery. Sounds like your 7 pin connector has 12v present with the key off and your trailer battery used your truck to try and recharge because it was not getting juice from the converter due to your cutoff switch being in the off position.

When your ignition is off, check whit a multimeter if you still have power to your 7 way plug. If yes you might need to install a battery isolator in your truck
