Just got done patching up a small leak in the front corner of TT. Roof sealant had cracked at the joint of the rubber roof membrane and front aluminum cover joint. I'm just looking for some advice in the long run. I scrubbed the joint along the whole front with a very soft bath brush and water to remove dirt. Then wiped clean with rags. Waited a few hours with some unbelievable 70 degree, sunny, November weather here, and then coated it with dicor self leveling lap sealant. When you are patching cracked or leaking areas like this, do you peal off the existing sealant, or just add more on top? I just envision it being like a road that eventually must be ground down before adding more asphalt or it gets too high. I did not peal any away this time, but just thinking for future repairs. Thanks.

Where I used to work we sealed over the old. Where I work now we remove all the old sealant. IMO both are acceptable as long as the seam is sealed.

IMO its a matter of aesthetics, and I will admit that all new sealant looks better. We use a multi tool with a flat blade to cut off as much sealant as possible and then peel the remainder.

I applied Eternabond to my front and rear seams when I bought it 3 yrs now and has held up very well.
You can apply self leveling sealant over old, it's more about looks.

Thanks for the input. I sure don't care what my roof looks like, as long as it keeps me dry.

Yep, be sure to check them joints before storing... I check mine often and this time, sure enough, I found cracks on both sides in the front and back passenger side.. Cleaned them up and applied the Dicor self leveling... Good for next season....
