After a few months of looking pulled the trigger on a 2007 Chevy 3500 DRW today. Ordered the 5 wheel hitch and hoping to get it installed and ready to go out for next weeks trip.

Very nice! Hard to see if the badge is duramax or vortek, which is it? If you want to make some improvements, PM me. I can make a bunch of recommendations on ways to spend your money :)

Aren't all Chevy HD trucks diesel?

No. The 3500 HD was available with the 6.6 diesel or 6.0 gas, I had a 2500 HD with the 6.0.

It is the Duramax.

It is the Duramax.

You got one of the nice ones. 2007 is a good year for the Duramax. None of the injector issues of the early ones, they don't overheat like the second version and you don't have all the pollution stuff that the newer ones have.

Add a EGT gauge. You can chip them or do EFI live tuning if you like, but get an EGT gauge.

If I owned one that was stock, I'd go with EFI live and something like the Edge CTS.

An Edge CTS is a must IMO. Mine has paid for itself. If you want to know how, pm me. It's a fairly long story to write up and I don't want to hijack the thread.

From the picture it looks like a new generation 2007, which means it does have DPF and regen. Chevy made both in 2007 during the changeover. But I agree on the edge CTS for monitoring, I have one also. Watch egt's, oil and coolant temps, oil and coolant should have about 5 degrees separation, if not its a sign they are mixing, which is all bad, CTS also tells you when you are in a regen. It has many other engine parameters you can display.

Yes it is the newer generation and does have a DPF with regen. Truck has finished its warranty and I am trying to consider doing a Delete and Tune. Truck has 105,000 miles on it. Also looking into the CTS for monitoring.

I don't follow GM a lot, mostly ford, but my first reaction would be delete it.

I wouldn't bother doing a delete unless you had a problem. If you have a problem and need to replace parts, may a well do it at that time, but going out and spending money for no other reason than to delete will not get enough gain to make it worth your while. The amount you will spend vs what you will gain will probably have a break even point around 150k miles or more.

Look into a EFI live tune that will eliminate or greatly reduce egr or use block off plates and leave all else as is unless you have issues. The EGR creates most of the issues so....strangle it:)

EGT is good and EFI tune will run cooler than stock on mild tune anyway.

Enjoy your new truck.

Just got back from weekend with new truck. Towed like a dream. Can't wait to plan summer trips.
