Garage Flip Down Dinette/Bed Cushioning

So, I have searched for solutions, but I haven't found any, so here goes.

In our Raptor 412TS TH, the seat backs on our garage flip down dinette is very cushy. The seats are pretty firm. When we flip it down to make a bed, the backs are pretty puffy and are raised above the seat bottom. BUT, even though they are cushy, when someone lies on them, the cushy part flattens out and the person lying down can feel the bar between the seat bottom and seat back. I hope I haven't lost anyone yet.

We have a foam topper that we lay on the "bed", but the bar can still be felt. We put an air mattress on the "bed", but it didn't work out so well either.

We are looking for something to firm up the bed and "hide" the bar. We have thought about taking the mattress (if you can call it that) off the Happi-Jac and using it on the bottom bed along with the foam topper.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have never used my garage bed. Is it possible to get pipe insulation foam around the bars for a cushion?

We have just brought the futon mattress down from the top bunk and set it on the bottom for the kids to sleep or they just both use the top bunk. Where ever they feel like sleeping. I have slept on the bottom bed on the cushions, with just a sleeping bag and have never felt any bars. Our cushions might be firmer than yours though also, hence the reason we bring down the mattress from the top now for the kids.

Not having thought your problem all the way through, the first thing that comes to mind is a piece of 3/8 or 1/2 plywood (or particle board - or whatever) that is sanded very smooth on both sides placed on the existing bed and then your topper or air mattress on top of the plyboard. Store the plyboard under your upper bunk mattress.

I have yet to receive complaints about lower bed conditions, but it has been slept on less than 10 times.

Thermarest Makes great backpacking/cycle mats for camping. Our daughter used hers when sleeping in the upper bed. So far nobody has tried sleeping on the "dinette bed".

I have heard the complaint about the lower/dinette being uncomfortable, once the person realized the other alternative being the couch the complaint went away.

I purchased a 6" memory foam mattress and put it on top. Only problem is having to deal with it if I want to use the bench seating. For that rare occasion, I place it on the top bunk.

Sleeping on the dinett bed will break the 4 plastic stops on the bench seats. You have to support the table with PVC pipe cut to the height of the those stops.

Huh? No one sleeps on the table. It is moved out of the way so the backs can be rolled over to form the middle. I think you might be thinking of something else, the old school dinette into a bed. I believe the discussion is about the bottom convertible bed in the garage.

Your right was thinking about the table in the kitchen area that converts to a single bed. I just have 2 queen double bunks in the garage area bottom one converts to a bench seat.
