I have the trailer now I need the tow vehicle. Have a 35' Passport so roughly 7000 lbs. Ignoring all the hauling people vs stuff arguments. What's better for towing SVU or truck

Had a 27' travel trailer that I towed with a 2014 Expedition and it was white knuckling and swaying all the time even with a weight distribution hitch (equalizer). Sold the Expedition and got a 2014 F250 diesel crew cab now my only problem is keeping it below 65mph.

Good with a truck, you won't be sorry ..... Don

7000 lb trailer means 3/4 ton truck. I would not recommend anything less.

Most SUV's have UniBody frames these days, but a truck still has a solid frame, and longer wheel base. These factors alone make a truck a better tow vehicle.

You are in 3/4 ton territory. A good WD hitch and sway control goes a long way. Equalizer or Centerline HD. I can tell you from experience diesel is the way to go, pulls with little effort. I pulled for years with a gasser, high RPM's and struggling to get up longer hills.

3/4 ton truck would work well

a truck

a 1/2 ton will work fine, just watch your weights...3/4 if money isn't an issue would be the better way to go

If you need more enclosed cargo area or more people space, check out a one ton van with a big gasser or diesel. Lots of cargo capacity, and nice long wheelbase for stability. If you are looking used, there are tons of Ford E350's out there as well as Chevy. If new, you are sort of limited to Chevy until Ford gets their act together with the new Transit ......

I can tell you that a megacab dodge pretty much bridges the gap between SUV and truck... :-)

Go with a vehicle that's rated at least 25% higher than your peak loaded capacity.

Ram eco diesel 1500. I tow the same weight, but my trailer is only 28'. The inside is huge, I have the ram boxes, and my configuration can tow about 7500 lbs. And get a propride weight distribution hitch.

Agree a truck is better. They have a real frame.

You may be able to tow it with one of the newer 1/2 tons with a trailering package depending on the loaded weight and tongue weight.

I agree with the others who have chimed in recommending a truck. You will be better served with a 1/2 ton or 3/4 ton truck depending on your needs.

If you have to have a SUV, maybe a Suburban if the numbers work.

Truck 1st choice, 2nd and 3rd. Not even a guess. Sound like you need to look up towing capacities. Make sure to read not only what a vehicle will tow but, what will it carry. If you get any vehicle truck or SUV that is at it's limits with your trailer you will not be happy and maybe dangerous. Look at the trailer GVWR not what the dealer says it weights. Just a start, good luck.
