I have a Onan 5500 gas generator model 5.5 HGJAB. I started it up to run it a couple hours and it shut down after 30 seconds showed a fault code no. 14 (engine governor unable to maintain rated frequency) tried it a couple times again same thing. Put 5 gals fuel in tank nothing changed. Any suggestion to try. Thanks

Check fuel first.. Namely the pump. How long since you ran it last?

I may of solved my own problem. I run the generator for 1 hour every 2-3 weeks and the last time I ran it it shut down. Checked the gas gauge it was between Empty and 1/4 started it again shut off in 30 seconds. Did not try it again till 3 weeks later started it shut down again. Added 5 gal non ethanol gas with sea foam added. Every 15 minutes I started it and it shut down did this 4 times in a hour. On the 5th try it started and ran for 1 1/2 hours under load (AC,lights etc) no problem. I feel the fuel pick up stops drawing gas around the 1/8 mark on the gas gauge. And the fuel line had air in it that why it kept shutting down till I kept restarting it and the gas line got the air out. Also trailer was off side to side by 1/2 bubble that may of added to the proble also. I do hope this problem I had helps someone else having the same problem. I did learn when the reading is under the 1/4 mark on the gas gauge ADD GAS.

I have a 2013 Onan and I am on my third fuel pump with only 21 hours on the generator. Getting really tired of changing pumps at $100 a shot. Of course they always fail when you need them the most and not in the yard.

It almost sounds like you're picking up trash or filings from the tank and destroying the fuel pump. Do you have a fuel filter in the supply line BEFORE the fuel pump?
