Locked Out!

Our door handle is pulling like it should open, but it won't. I'm afraid that my 11 year old switched the red indoor lever (that acts as a deadbolt), and now I can't get in. No windows are unlocked. The second outside lock in the bottom right corner just turns both ways...infinitely! Suggestions?

Happened to us, generally the lockset is cheap pot metal and will crack apart relatively easily with screwdriver and prying...

Your most likely going to have to replace the lock set, so I would start by drilling out the deadbolt cylinder.

It sounds like your youngster may have turned the red lever too far and broken the link to the cylinder.

If the deadbolt was locked from the inside, someone must still be in there as the door would not close if the deadbolt was turned with the door open.

I don't know if this helps the immediate situation, but our unit came with different keys for the front and rear doors. You can buy the tumbler keyed to whatever key for $7, but apparently there is a master key required to get it out, which they won't sell you.

I ended up replacing the entire door mechanism, it was pretty inexpensive at $30 or so... Replacement found at RVLocksandmore.com, about 50% of CW price.

DCG9831 said it... check with your local dealer. They have a master (RED) key that might work. It's worth a try, but you have to take the rig to them, they won't release the key, as it fits 90% of the stock locks out there.

If you have a laundry shoot...use the same kid to get in the camper and unlock it from the inside. My 10 year old made $10 helping out some fellow campers with the same problem 4th of July.

Master (pass) key only works the handle cylinder NOT the deadbolt cylinder.

A benefit of being an RV tech is a ring of pass keys.

Our deadbolt would not lock from the inside one night, so I tore into the lock and a plate that holds a linkage in place had come loose, easy fix and all good now, if for some reason it would have been locked and then the linkage would have fell out of place, if you were in the rv, you better have a screw driver handy to get yourself out, if outside, not sure what to do except follow some directions above...Good Luck

Well if it is an fic loc. we locked ours and could not unlock had my little. One slide through the bathroom door to go over to bedroom exit and open the emerency window. Called FIC fasttec industries because the lock was on recall. Got it for free. Check into that also

If it is in your driveway and it is a FIC lock, look at the key. The number is the lock number. Check their web for recall. It maybe on a recall and you get send a new key and means to remove the old one.

Our daughter is inside,(through the laundry chute), but she can't open the door from the inside either. Any other thoughts?

How did you get into the lock? We're trying Allen wrenches but can't find a fit.

Probably a #2 square head bit. It's used throughout your rig in every place that you can imagine (and more than a few you forgot), both inside and out. You may not find a complete driver with handle for a #2 square, but the bits for a 1/4" holder are common everywhere: Home Depot, Lowes, Ace is the place, etc. I have a selection of them for my drill drivers, bit handles, and more. There are also decking screws that use this bit, so they are even more common now.

I looked at mine; it's a #2 square. I bet the one on their rig is as well.

If it's not a flathead screw then it is most likely a torx head. T20 rings a bell with me. You will only be able to remove the inside plate but that should be enough to get to the latch and open it.

Thank you to so many of you that were helpful! Indeed the deadbolt had moved over to keep the door locked and No, there was no one inside.

We sent our daughter in through the laundry chute. She removed the black plate (inside handle), but could not figure out how to slide the deadbolt back. My husband climbed in through the rear emergency window. (Unfortunately, the plastic screen removal handle was broken while trying to remove the screen to open the window. Looked like it had rotted from the heat.) He slid the deadbolt back and opened the door.

We spent quite a bit of time repairing the inside mechanism of the door. There is a tiny metal bar that connects the deadbolt lock to the deadbolt. That had fallen off, which allowed the the bolt to slide out and lock the door.

It took 3 of us to hold pieces and screw screws and fit parts together. But it now works!

Wow, what an ordeal. Glad you got it fixed without destroying anything. I would bet that little screen removal tab can be bought cheap enough at any RV parts outlet.

Again same thing here, I forgot to mention, I ended up putting lock tight on the screws that hold the plate that holds the deadbolt linkage in place so the same thing would not happen again...
