Cool idea. I'd keep an eye on the mount in that soft pine. The downward force of the bike in bumps/vibration may try to tear it off the board.

It's called a bicycle fork mount. Thule, Yakima, Evo, Delta, and many other manufacturers of bike accessories and racks all offer them. They're all over the net, Amazon, and ebay. I've seen them in sporting goods stores like Dicks, REI, Eastern Mountain, etc. You'll probably find them in WalMart, too. Almost any place that sells bicycles and accessories will have them.

I used them in the front bed rail of my last truck, will also do it in this one, but that's a good idea if you can't work it a truck bed.

Not really. Folks have been using these mounts for many years in many different places like truck beds and car roof. If it's a worry, a small bungee on the rear wheel connected to something solid is more than enough to keep it in place. There's a lot less bouncing action than you might think.

I put a towel under the tire so it didn't mark up the table but overall I'm extremely happy with the set up. It slid to the side a little going to the campground so coming home I put a bungee on the rear wheel and hooked it in the thumb hole for the under seat compartment and it was enough to keep it from hitting the island
