Sat morning after a night of rain I head out the door and as I reached the first step I slipped and fell down the 3 steps to the ground. Not fun but luckily my old bones were fine. Stopped at a RV center and bought 3 skid proof strips to put on the edge of each step. So far so good.

Glad your ok! We have been considering adding the fabric covers to ours to match our outdoor rug (fake brown grass stuff...guess i haven't had enough coffee to recall proper names lol).

Do you think that would make the steps worse? For anyone else that has had them, worse or better? And do you take them off between trips? (not trying to hijack thread, but seems to fit)

I have not slipped yet, but I could very easily see it happening to me...

Added the AstroTurf type to ours for the pups...

I looked at the step covers. They were the plastic grass type things. I felt that if those were wet that it could be very slippery so we went with the non-skid strip to go on the edge.

They ain't... and as an added benefit they help clean the crud off your shoes.. :D Don't know how they'll be in ice, but my guess is that they'll hold the water and free up slick..

Somewhere in the archives I started a thread on what I did, in short I drilled weep holes in the gullies of the steps to drain the rain and they work perfectly for us and my dog "bouncey:

I purchased the carpet style ones, these have been soaked with rain/water with no slipping issues.

Me, too. Work great. Had them ice and they did improve traction over the uncarpeted steps.

X3 on these. They work very well. I don't use them to clean my shoes because my wife won't allow me to wear shoes in the trailer :)

My wife at times want the shoes off but sometimes at breakfast or dinner I am in or out 3 or 4 times real quick and I do not take them off.

Howdy All;

Rascal's feet were sliping on the steps so he's been getting leery of going up them (gravity is his friend),
so I went an got some of this http://www.autozone.com/paint-and-body/truck-bed-coating/rust-oleum-spray-truck-bed-coating/98214_0_0/
Got it at Wally World where it's less costly. Applied before we went on an
"Adventure" for him, fishin' trip for me. Works fine, lasts a long time and for
you folks that don't live in yours very simple to figure out when to do it...

I used cable ties instead of the coil springs supplied.
I did discover that my aluminum steps wouldn't fold up if I had the carpet on all the steps.

I used the carpet ones from cw. Be careful with the springs, zip ties are safer to install them with. Mines works great.

We have the turf covers that match the rug and they work great. No slipping issues at all even when wet. They work great for the dogs walking in and out also"bouncey:

We got some step covers from Camping World for our steps, mainly for the dogs gong up and down. Really worried me every time they went up or down as I would think they would catch a claw in the holes in the metal step. The covers have been a fantastic addition. I don't foresee them lasting for years but we only leave on for camping and take off in between, so they should last a while.

They are also very comfortable on the human foot as well. We don't wear shoes inside so all of our shoes are at the bottom of the steps. Have no complaints at all.

We have the turf type covers from camping world. Mainly so we could wipe our feet off before coming in. Haven't had any issues with them

Our steps on our new Bullet already has a strip of non skid and drain holes from the factory.

I made my own carpet treads on our trip last month. I had a large remnant from the 7'x9' indoor/outdoor carpet I bought at Costco for $14 that I used to line the storage lockers. I cut 3 pieces to wrap around each step. I then put 4 grommets on each side and secured them to the steps with zip ties. For less than about $5 I covered all of the steps. It would have cost $45-50 buying 3 treads at Walmart or CW. I was probably a day too late. When we got home I discovered our dog shattered a toenail which required surgery, and got infected anyway ($400 at the vet). The only thing I can think may have caused the injury was getting the nail caught in the holes on the steps. I feel so bad that I waited until we got there to do the mod. Poor Kona has been sidelined for 3 1/2 weeks, but doing OK.

That's my fear. Makes me cringe just thinking about it.
