Have a 2012 F250 SB, looking at a Montana 305RL, curious as to whether I need a sliding 5th wheel or not. Thought maybe one of the more experienced guys here would know. TIA

Brain to fingers moment here...until someone that has a shortbed chimes in...I'm thinking a tape measure to get the pin to trailer front corner measurement, then compare that to the hitch to cab corner measurement.

We used the slider occasionally with the previous 5er, but never used it with the 343rl. Keep the tailgate closed until ready to unhook.

Ok so I just got my first 5er and it has the max turn front end , but my truck cost north of 45 thousand the rv over 30 . The hitch was $1200.00 so the peace of mind of having a slider for me even if it never gets used is worth it. Just my 2 cents worth

I currently have a Cougar FW with Max turn and tow with a short bed Ford. When I purchased the hitch a got the slider for piece of mind at the time. Most of the time I never use the slide, but I have needed it for some camp grounds where I have had a dip or incline backing in. It may not seem like 14 inches is a lot but it's nice to know you have it if needed.

Great, thanks for the real info, Nick & Gia. I don't have the trailer or the hitch yet, obviously, so it's nice to hear from someone experienced in the situation I'm asking about. I'd hate to buy a fixed 5th when I need a slider, or buy a slider if it's not really necessary.

We have a 2006 F350 short bed dually, Montana High Country 305RL, with an Andersen Ultimate fifth wheel hitch. I can turn very sharp with this setup. The Fords have the longest short beds of all the trucks. They are 6' 9". If I had a slider, I would want to try to use it occasionally just because I spent the money on it. But I think I will be able to put the fiver in any spot that it "should" fit anyway. I didn't want to deal with any "clunk", and a super heavy hitch to take out from time to time.
