My daughter wants a handle to help her crawl in out of the upper double bunks in our Passport. Looks like it can go on the left side of the opening to the bunk and to the right of the refrigerator. My fingers are touching the spot I expect to find aluminum stud.
I was wondering what others had done. (tx)

It looks like that is an interior wall. If so, you probably won't find an aluminum stud there. Most interior walls are 2x2 and 1x2 clear pine or poplar. Depending on how sturdy that section of wall is and how much weight/swinging your daughter will put on the handle, you may find that if it doesn't support the handle, you can easily remove the molding, beef up the 2x2 and get the strength you need. It would be an easy project to do and with an "alternate game plan" in the event the handle doesn't stay secure, it would be a good addition to give her some sense of security when climbing the ladder.

The grand touring passport says aluminum framed I guess I assumed intererior walls as well. Are they wood ?

Interior walls on almost all Keystone products are wood. If you read the brochure "critically" it will say something like "6 sided" aluminum structure. The "6 sides" are: front, back, left, right, top and bottom. All interior parts are wood. The easy way for you to know for sure is to unscrew the 4 or 5 #2 square drive screws that hold the molding in place and see what's under it.

If you do, please report what you find, it will surely help someone else "down the road"......

We also thought about installing a handle for my 14 year old son to get up and down from the top bunk. We decided to put up a ladder and he likes it much better. Now he has no trouble getting up and doesn't fall to the ground when getting down. We got it at Camping World and it takes up very little space. This too may be an option for you

We did the ladder from CW as well. She is just not use to craving into a bunk bed and just wants that extra security of something to hold on to. (tx)

Finally bought an exterior handle used long screws. Surprised how solid it feels. She not hanging on it just has something to hold on to as she makes the transition from ladder to mattress.

My boy just grabs onto the bunk rail I made. Instead of screws if you could try toggle bolts. They'd be stronger yet.
