View Full Version : Auxiliary diesel tank Installation
Finally got around to installing my in bed diesel tank. It's all plumbed. Just have to finish wiring it up with a cab switch and relay. Very nice. With the new (to me) 3500HD, first upgrade or mod to the truck will be more fuel capacity.

Nicely done. You put a little more into it than I did, I just ran my fuel lines through the holes at the front of the bed. I lot of guys run them over the top and down between the cab and the bed. My lines come out of the top of the tank so it just made sense to drop them down through without drilling holes.

I doubt I'd ever have the need for one personally, but I guess it would be nice if I were younger.. my 37 gallon OEM tank is larger than my bladder.. :D When I was in my 20's and 30's I could drive 700+ miles between potty breaks... now..... not so much maybe on a good day 250-300.. I did think briefly about replacing the OEM with a 50 gallon Titan but I couldn't rationalize the expense for the small gain.
Traveling with wife, two dogs, and two kids I figure I'll need lots of breaks so right now sticking withy 37 gallons also. I am taking 2 five gallon containers on my upcoming trip though for emergency use.

For me it's just the convenience of stopping at a rest stop instead of a fuel station. It all changes when traveling with the DW and kids, but when I transport, it's nice going 1k loaded and 2k unloaded miles between fuel stops. It also allows me to plan my trip and get fuel where it's cheap. My last trip I topped off in Salt Lake City, delivered to Sacramento, and made it back to AZ before I had to stop. Avoided the $3+ per gallon in CA.
We travel wife and two kids. We normally travel through the night on our long trips. It just makes it nice as bsmith said to not have to stop if not wanting too. Just to hit a rest stop and keep cruising on while the kids are sleeping. Plus side too is filling up near home vs at the destination tends to give cheaper fuel prices.

Nice install!!! I have a 2006 F550 and as a chassis cab they only have a 19 gallon tank up front. It also has the aft axle 40 gallon as an option but the added additional 50 gallon Transfer flow / tool box works awesome and with 110 gallons I don't need to deal with crowded fuel stations and low over hangs while out for a camping trip....
Thank you! I finally have it wired up also. Took 17 mins to fill to full from empty with fuel Light on. Didn't think that was bad.

Yeah, 17 mins is not bad, but the $$$ probably was.
I really like my Titan 65 gal replacement tank except when I have to pay to fill it up.
