Has anybody out there done a trip to Yellowstone from California. Just curious if anyone can tell me best routing, road conditions for towing, good rv spots, any spots of special interest?

X2 - we stayed at Cactus Pete's in Jackpot, NV, just south of the Idaho line on 93. Nice sites, very reasonable rates, stores for ice etc across the road (the better sites are in the lower campground) The airstrip is right there, but, there were only 3 planes in the 3 nights we were there.
Then on to West Yellowstone. Would recommend the Grizzly RV Park in West Yellowstone. Very nice park just 1/2 mi from the west entrance - walking distance to town - great staff.

Do those sites at Cactus Pete's fill up and need reservations or if you just show up you are ok. Going to stay there also then next day Grizzly RV. Three days there and off to Cody and beyond.

Depends on time of year day of week. We had reservations for 3 campers so not sure if you need them

It is Island Park. Never stayed in an RV there. Just cabin rental.

The missus and I stayed at Redrock RV last year at the end of June. It is beautiful and quiet, but bring bug spray! It is 30-40 minute drive into Yellowstone but the peaceful feel of the RV park and the dark skies for stargazing is what made it fantastic!

As for the drive out from the bay area (San Jose) we took 80 East to Wells NV and then turned north on 93 and Stayed at Nat-Soo-Pah RV in Idaho. The hot mineral spring pool and soak tub were fantastic after 10.5 hours on the road. Not to be missed are the Shoshone Falls in Twin Falls ID.
