When not hauling toys can I travel with bed and sofa down or must they be up and pinned? Bottom sofa does not pin even when up, only top bed.

Happy Jack days to have them raised, but my dealer said many are delivered with the lower bed down. I have always traveled with them raised since it says that in the manual.

You can travel with them down. I used to do this a lot. It seems to make the 5ver a little less top heavy. But this year we have removed both of them to reduce weight along with 2 tables because we never use them and I didn't want to drag around stuff that we don't use. A few other items that never get used and I think the total weight loss is about 600lbs.

I travel with mine up. I'm pretty sure my bottom does indeed pin up, though I don't pin it. A while back there were a few posts about folks having them come down during transit, which is what makes me think there are holes for the bottom - but I'm not positive. I've never had an issue in about 6000 miles of hauling.

Has anyone else removed the happy jac beds , tables or any other un-needed / un-wanted items from their camper in an effort to decrease weight?

It wouldn't be much of a garage to haul toys around if happy jack meant for the beds to be lowered when traveling :)

Although.... i've seen stranger things from manufacturers:D

The only bed I can pin in my FZ342 is the top bed. It was the same in my FZ295. They designed it to be able to pin the top bunk for extra headroom when you want the lower bunk available to turn into a couch/table combo etc.

I keep top one all the way up and pinned, bottom one right underneath it.

I have a 325 and only the top bed pins in the up position.

On our 357 the top bed pins up and the lower has straps to attach it to the top bed so it's secure also.

Is there really any reason to pin either of them???

We have had some reports of motorcycles being crushed when the bed is put in the up position, not pinned and a MC stored under it. If the bed comes down it can damage both the bed and the cycle. There are a couple of people who have reported that the bed 'powered to the down position" and in those cases, the motor driven bed actually crushed parts of the cycle. The small investment in time to pin the bed in the upper position to prevent damage to anything stored under it would seem like a good investment.

I added pins below my lower bed too. Don't want my Ultra messed up if it fails.

Only thing keeping that top one pinned while camping is the reduction of air flow into the A/C unit. I was thinking of removing my top bunk.
