Near Gadsden, AL. Large state park on Lake Guntersville. Lots of sites. Not all with full hook ups. Some near the lake. Large lodge with restaurant. Looks nice but food is only average at best. The town of Guntersville is nice with abut all you need. Takes reservations but pick your site when you arrive.

Guntersville is on the list to be closed. The state put out a list of parks that they felt were loosing money, announced last week. Currently, plans are on hold but they have not made any final decisions.

I hate to hear it could close. Pretty decent place. Could use a little work, but so could most parks.
There was a big rally there when we visited. Looked like mostly high end class A diesel pushers.

Racin500 is on the money. (Y'all didn't need me to tell you that) The Alabama legislature has jerked about 10 to 11 million dollars out of the state parks budget so something has got to go. :(

I'm going to have to look into this place. I'm thru Alabama quite often but have never taken the time to go there....and don't ask me about I65? between Birmingham and Montgomery....:banghead:

Yes that’s a mess. It’s bumpy and always under construction. And malfunction junction is being reworked. Bad thing is that my Dealership between Bham and Montgomery.

Guntersville is an old park but is fairly well maintained. And weekends are packed but weekdays are sparse. I’ve been here since Monday and it’s about half capacity.

It’s my first full week as an RV camper.

There may be a worse highway than I-65 through B'ham, I suppose the highway over the GW bridge in New York would be one. But that stretch is way worse than terrible.

It took us over 2 - 2 1/2 hrs to go 29 miles as I recall. All that with folks running off the side of the road, some woman...running 80+ determining that she needed to be in the 12' opening when traffic was 25 etc. Pure stupidity and it took everything in my power to keep cool.
